Ladies Day at Connell Hill’s SJI League Show

The Easter break brought much welcomed sunshine for the equine enthusiasts as they trained in preparation to jump colourful tracks spaciously displayed, by William Brown, in the fabulous outdoor arena.  Jumping in the expanse of this great outdoor arena excited many competitors with some a little apprehensive but as challenges were taken this very quickly dispelled and elation set in.  Ladies stole the show as Judge, Katy Saunders, got this rip roaring show off to a hearty start with the 80 cm class which saw three ladies jump most eminent double clears aboard their own horses and then gloriously triumph with double clears in the 90 cm class, and these three were none other than Julie McLernon on ‘Freckleton Marinella, Joanne Wilkinson on ‘Yellow Moon’ and Audrey Hunter on ‘Cushnahans Zoe’, well done ladies.  An ambitious young lady soaring high claiming double clear in the 1.0 m class was Laura Millar on, ‘Gillian Millars’, ‘Mo’s Touch’ Laura then went on to jump double clears in the 1.10 m class on ‘Gillians’ ‘Romeo (KWPN)’ and ‘Karen MacKenzies’ ‘Peyroux’.  Even though the previous warmer weather did not quite make it for the show and the temperature had dropped it was still hot under the collar as 1.20 m challenge got under way which saw Claire O’Hara run away with a victorious win on ‘Brendan O’Haras’ ‘Tiffcrum Penny’, Kirsty Parke earn a well deserved second place on ‘Aylwin Parkes’ ‘Bayan de la Bouverie’ and Laura Millar pick up third on ‘Gillian Millars’ ‘Romeo’.  This highly competitive day concluded with the 1.30 m class which saw Suzanne Posnett display her undeniable ‘horsewomanship’ skill taking the poll position on ‘Beth Armstrongs’ ‘Orchard Echo’ with Ruairi Logue picking up second on ‘David Coyles’ ‘Coco Fino’.

So with a large number of competitors qualified for the final of this league, which will be held on Saturday 25^th April, it does indeed promise to be one of huge excitement.
