Irwin Works Magic At Connell Hill’s SJI Horse Show

Truthfully no-one appreciates  the unpredictable ‘March’ weather which realistically can see ‘four seasons’ in one day, so with nearing end of March, clocks going forward and Easter just around the corner spirits were extremely high on Saturday, the fourth leg of the ‘Spring SJI Horse League Show at Connell Hill.  The seasonal courses set in line with SJI Policy were complimented by riders throughout the day with each challenge offering smooth riding keeping horses moving forward and concentration very much to the fore.  The show opened with the 80 cm class which saw Michael Irwin benchmark the day displaying his chivalry skills claiming double clear on ‘Sheelagh Kennedys’ ‘Magic Iroko’ and then jump the first double clear in the 90 cm class.  The objective of jumping at SJI level is jumping clear rounds rewarding points, and as the course was set competitors walked and prepared for the 1.0 m challenge which saw Brian Smyth, having successfully done his groundwork, claim double clears on his own ‘’Limmericks Quarry Gold’ and ‘Iroko Quarry Diamond’, Brian then went on claiming double clear on ‘Limmericks Quarry Gold’ in the 1.10 m class.  ‘Bannside Boy’, owned and ridden by Lisa Boyle, was top man jumping a double clear in the 1.20 m class warming up to go forward and stand in poll position in the 1.30 m class with Fiona Coyle, on her own, ‘Arion-E’ taking second, John Higgins, on his own, ‘KEC Freefalling’ taking third and Walter Stewart fourth place, on his own, ‘Diamond Courage’ .  This league just gets better and better so with three legs remaining, before the grand finale, there is still time to qualify so come along and share the enjoyment of competition.  Connell Hill would like to thank Judge, Katy Saunders, Course Designer, Nigel Jess, Starters, Catherine Drain and Dawn Reeves, Arena Crew, spectators and competitors making this show a most successful and enjoyable day.
