A ‘Mint’ Mothers Day’ at Connell Hill Working Hunter Show
‘Mothers Day’ was a most family orientated day at Connell Hill, as competitors competed at the Working Hunter Show. It was obvious riders had spent pain staking hours cleaning tack and grooming horses as all were turned out in ‘mint’ show condition. The indoor arena was a magnificent display of colourful show jumping fences set amidst authentic working hunter fences and small artefacts. 4 Year olds stepped out in style ‘obviously enjoying showing off’ as they displayed their talent with Carolyn Avery taking the first red rosette of the day on ‘Emperors Reflection’ and Eileen Carlin taking second on ‘MC Flash Harry’. Ian McCluggage then took first on ‘Beckham’ in the 80 cm class with Eileen Carlin taking second on ‘MC Flash Harry’. First place was claimed by Sarah Britton on ‘Tigger’ in the Small Working Hunter Horse class with Ian McCluggage, again, standing poll for the 90 cm class on ‘Beckham’ and ending the Horse classes on a most majestic note Hannah Rafferty took first on ‘Cor Ramler’ in the 1.10 m class. Horses/ponies all have a unique identity and non more so than the competition as the pony classes took to the arena once again displaying phenomenal talent. Young riders went forward most competently with admirable pride as ‘mothers’ aided encouragement with Max McDonnell claiming the first red rosette in the x-poles on ‘Mountain Game Cock’ and sister Elle awarded an outstanding first in the 30 cm, 50 cm Cradle Stakes and then the 60 cm class on the very futuristic ‘’Rowfantina Jammy Dodger’. Donna Barron then stood poll position for the 70 cm Starter Stakes class on’Bellville Setanta’ with Chloe Connon picking up first on ‘Fieldside Free Spirit’ in the M&M up to 133 cm class. This show was certainly one oozing excitement tingled with nerves as each class was taken in true style with a most unpredictable end result which saw Kerri Rafferty on ‘Robe Dream’ proudly take first place in the 80 cm Open 133 cm class. Riding and showing technique coupled together does prove difficult but having it all figured out taking first in the M&M up to 143 cm and 90 cm 143 cm class proudly taking first was Jodie Creighton on ‘Derrygimble Atlantic Storm’. Hannah Rafferty, with a most successful day travelled home on a high ending the show, claiming first in the 1.0 m Open 153 cm on ‘Cor Ramler’. Well done to everyone and good luck for the future from Connell Hill.
Connell Hill would like to thank, Judges, Ms Lesley Webb, horse judge, and Mr Paul Glass, pony judge, who both had the difficult task of judging the high standard of showing.
