Cerys Howell ‘Rocks’ at Connell Hill SJI Pony Show
Connell Hill had the privilege of welcoming young athletes to the SJI Pony Show on Sunday which was a first outing this year for quite a few competitors and indeed first time show for some ponies which took it all in their stride. This was indeed a most challenging show displaying talent which captivated spectators as these future young athletes took their challenge sportingly and set off against the clock. Embarking the world of show jumping Maria Carr opened the show on Janet Currie’s ‘Curolea Rosi’ with a successful double clear in the Newcomer 60 cm class. Taylor Hunter then displayed his talent taking highly commendable first place with double clears in both the 128 cm 70 cm and 80 cm classes on his mums’ ‘Ballybollen Blue’. The spectators applauded as the 128 cm U 10’s took their challenge achieving double clear rounds. Maeve Clarke took the glory of the 128 cm 90 cm with first place on her mums’ ‘Stormcloud’ and second on ‘Lenamore Mini Metro’. Once again the Clarke name came up trumps as Tadhg stood in poll position for the 128 cm 1.0 m class with Alex Finney taking second on ‘Some Journey’ and third on ‘Ballyknock Master Roan’. The athletes of the 138 cm 90 cm class received a huge round of applause and cheers for skilful riding ability claiming double clear rounds as courses designed, by Mr Nigel Jess, required control with precision of stride. Georgia Kelly then took the 138 cm 1.0 m class on her dad’s ‘Mystery Boy’, with Daryl Somerville stand in poll position for the 138 cm 1.10 m, with a most outstanding round of jumping, on her dads ‘Paddys Pet’. Cherys Howell thought she had her work cut out for her bringing first time out babies but they all proved to be stars in the making as they pulled out all the stops for their most talented jockey with an array of double clears throughout the day. Home bred ‘youngstar’ ‘Glennairley Foxy Roxy’ jumped an awesome double clear rocking into first place in the 148 cm 80 cm class and equal first in the 148 cm 90 cm class. Cherys was once again amidst the prize winners of the 148 cm 1.0 m class with, again first time out, ‘Essenar Luizza’ and ‘Mr Murphy (CPBS)’. Ending a most admirable display of fearsome young talent Elle Johnston proudly took first place on ‘knockagaron Elite Fear Bui’ and Beth Doherty a sterling second place on ‘Springhill Cosmo’ in the 148 cm 1.20 m class. Connell Hill congratulates everyone for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship throughout the day and looks forward to welcoming everyone back for the next SJI Pony Show on Sunday 22nd March at 10.00 am.
