Spruce Working Hunter Show at Connell Hill
Connell Hill welcomed competitors on Sunday 18th January as they made their way, oblivious to the cold weather conditions, to the ‘Working Hunter Show’, which was a track of natural/authentic working hunter and minimal obstacle fences. The superbly maintained indoor surface encouraged ponies and horses forward with the added benefit of this venue being a most safety conscious environment aiding confidence.
Competitors all made the huge effort to ‘look their best’ as ‘turnout looking the part entering the arena’ is the all important factor in any show. Max McDonnell picked up the first placing of the day in the x-poles class on ‘Mountain Game Cock’ with Charlotte McAllister picking up a most deservedly second place. Congratulations to horse and rider, picking up first in the 30 cm class to Lucy Byrne on ‘Singing Sally’ at their debut show. Chloe Connon then took the honours of first place on ‘Fieldside Free Spirit’ in the 50 cm class with Elle Johnston taking first in the 60 cm Cradle Stakes on ‘Dapple’. The 60 cm M & M up to 122 cm saw Elle McDonnell take first on ‘Belle Vue Royal Jester’ with Sarah Brashaw pick up second on ‘Cefnhendre Iola’, Bethany Gordan then took first on ‘Thistletown Dinny’ in the 70 cm Starter Stakes’. Moving on to the 80 cm open Jodie Creighton picked up first place on ‘Golden Pat’ with Cherie McHugh snatching second on ‘Showtack Penny’ and William Hamilton stand third on ‘Meadow Studley’. First place in the 80 cm M & M up to 143 cm was picked up by Jodie Creighton on ‘Rydid Top Dollar’ covering the ground in big easy strides with Sammy-Jo McMullan standing second on ‘See Me Fly’. Collectively and calmly making their over the course to take first in the 90 cm Open 143 cm was Jodie Creighton on ‘Frodo’ with Gaby Morgan picking up second on ‘Manninard Sir Ganty’. This much talented young equine athlete, Jodie Creighton, then picked up first in the 90 cm M & M over 143 cm on ‘Golden Pat’ with Courtney Hamilton taking first in the 1.0 m Open 153 cm on ‘Billy Beauty’.
Connell Hill would like to thank, Judge, Mr Jamie Smyth who had the difficult task of judging the high standard of showing, and Scribe, Hannah Dumigan, and welcome everyone to our next Working Hunter Show on Sunday 15th February, Horses 10.00 am and Ponies 2.00 pm.
