Poetry in Motion at Connell Hill Dressage Competitions
Riders taking dressage tests at Connell Hill on Sunday 11th January demonstrated control, steady even transitions, balance and suppleness of their horses. After all Dressage is ‘Flat Work’; developing horse and rider communication skills resulting in a flexible balanced harmonious team therefore an enormous aid for other disciplines. As the show commenced with the first class, the Intro A, it was apparent how much pride riders take in this discipline as horse and rider were turned out immaculately, with Donna Dawson taking the first placing of the day on ‘Gabreil’, Alison Smith on ‘Jumping Dale Viola’ taking second, Jansseen Hill picking up third and fourth rosettes on ‘Roxi’ and ‘Darcy’ with Clare Scott fifth on ‘Cooke’s Man’. The Prelim 10 test was indeed a much contended test with only fractions of points splitting the placings which saw Nuala McNally stand in poll positions taking first on ‘Hayley’ and second on ‘Sonni’ with Julie McLernon picking up a well deserved third on ‘Freckleton Marinella’. Dressage is visual poetry and often described as figure skating or ballet on horse back and none more so than going on to higher test levels as transition movements become more technical with Kenzi Potter displaying her talent taking first in the Prelim 14 test on ‘Tara’ with Julie McLernon snatching second on ‘Freckleton Marinella’ and Kenzi third on ‘Drummena Hill’. As it came to the final class of the day, the Novice 30, style and appearance was still to the fore which saw Jeanene Gamble take the honours of first place on her super horse ‘Lenamore Master Maguire’ and Nuala McNally pick up second on ‘Song of Charm’. Connell Hill would like to thank Judge, Ivor Harper, and scribe Stephen Hewitt, and competitors for their support and welcome everyone back for future shows.
