December Derby Day at Laurel View

With Christmas just round the corner there were a few festive decorations adorning the twisting and turning course at the Laurel View Derby league competition on 14^th December.

 

Seeing Santa put some off their stroke, or perhaps it was a runaway reindeer! Claire Dobbin took it all in their stride and rode a super clear round to secure first place in the 60cm. Natasha Adrain and Rolo picked up 4 faults, but still give a very pleasing performance to earn them second.

 

By the seventies all the riders seemed to have got themselves sorted and there were quite a number of clear rounds, leaving it all down to the jump off to see who was in top form.  The Castletown Lad and Miriam Wright pulled out all the stops to come in fastest, just a fraction ahead of Hailey and Nuala McNally.

 

Onwards to the 85cm course and a smashing clear round from Vinnie and Jenny Campbell scored them the top spot with not contest.  The four faulters had to fight it out in a jump off, with Kathy Delargy and Skylark Express steaming in fastest to claim the blue ribbon.

 

Up to the metre, which seemed to cause a little more difficulty for the riders with no clear rounds at all. Kathy Delargy and Skylark Express ended up with a red ribbon in this class. While the blue this time went to Katie McDonnell and Silly Sally.

 

Santa has left the building, but the derby course builders will be back in action for the next leg of the league on Sunday 18^th January. The usual 12.30pm start with the 60cm, before moving up through the classes. As always £2 from every entry paid is heading straight into the class cash prize fund, all who have qualified (2 competitions, same height and combo prior to the final) can then compete to take home the monies.

85cms – 1^st Vinnie, Jenny Campbell; 2^nd Skylark Express, Kathy Delargy; 3^rd Quida, Laura Sloan; 4^th Ludo, Hilary Redmond; 5^th Vromy, Nikita Cochrane.

 

1m – 1^st Skylark Express, Kathy Delargy; 2^nd Silly Sally, Katie McDonnell; 3^rd Vromy, Nikita Cochrane.
