Saturday saw the final of the Autumn/Winter SJI Horse League at Connell Hill with competitors arriving for the big day following weeks of hard preparation.  The very favourable weather added to the atmosphere as riders warmed up to jump colourful tracks spaciously displayed in the indoor arena.  The opening 80 cm class saw the hard work pay dividends as Stephen Darragh, from Larne, jump his own gelding ‘Master Jones’ into first place with Adele Dallas, from Moneymore, earn a well deserved second on her own gelding ‘Flaming Felix’.  There was then huge competition for the 90 cm class as riders took this challenge which saw Victoria Nelson, ‘a resident of Connell Hill’ stand in poll position on ‘Jazz Black Jack’ with the very well known Janet Curry, from Limavady, taking second on ‘Curolea Bobi’ and David Taylor jumping Anthony Wrights ‘Furisto Girl’ into third and Trevor Overends ‘CJO Curiosity Lux’ into fourth.  Killien then adjusted the track for the 1.0 m class which saw maximum performance from all riders but coming out on top taking first was Carla Overend, from Ballymena, on her own gelding ‘CJO Max A Million’.  The superb surface saw riders excel their performance as the clocks ticked for this final and it was certainly a very proud moment as Alistair Barr, the second resident of Connell Hill to win a class at this league, fire ‘Colt Forty Five’, his own gelding, into first place.  David Taylor, from Castledawson, then cruised his own gelding, ‘Cruising For Pleasure’ into first in the 1.20 m class.  The final class, the 1.30 m class, saw Gary Marshall, from Ballymena, display skilful riding as he took the very honourable position of first place on the most athletic ‘Claudio’, his own stallion.
