One More Encore For Connell Hill’s £1K Derby League
The second qualifier for the hugely popular £1000 Indoor Derby at Connell Hill on Sunday was a most entertaining day for spectators as they witnessed some very edge of the seat rounds of jumping. Competitors energetically entered the arena and set of over the tracks in a bid to jump clear making it through to the jump off. The tracks, which combined show jumping and working hunter fences demanded control with stride precision making turns meeting the next fence with a finely tuned sat nav. This entertaining day commenced with the 60 cm class which saw Chloe Connon take the first red rosette of the day on ‘Annie’ with Lucy McPeake taking second on ‘My Bubbles’. Alison Lindsay then took first place, with the only clear, in the 70 cm class on ‘Arwen Evenstar’ and as the clocks were set for the jump off there was no stopping Jodie Creighton as she zoomed into second on ‘Monarch’. The course then quickly adjusted for the 80 cm class saw Peadar McLaughlin on ‘Murphy’, not only the fastest time but also double clear take the honours of first placing with Julie Blakley picking up deservedly second on ‘Biscuit’. This non-eye-blinking show just become more and more exciting as the 90 cm jump off got under way, and as the bell was rung for Keavy Molloy on ‘Misty’ they set off and jumped clear all the way going for it but with Ruth Cousins’s in and out nippy turns on ‘Wishful Willow’ they snatched the first place pushing Keavy into second and third place with mid air turns going to Lucy Cunningham on ‘Paddy the Harper Master’. Spectators clapped and cheered throughout the show encouraging competitors as they took each challenge and all too soon it was the final class, the 1.0 m class which saw some exceptional rounds of jumping. And battling it out for first place the bell rang, and taking wings, Orla McLaughlin on ‘Flynn’ flew into first place and with an outstanding effort Carol-Anne Saunders took second on ‘One More Encore’. Well done to everyone and welcome all back for the final on Sunday, 9th November, at 10.00 am, which promises to be a most exhilarating day.
