‘Paul Ever The Hero’ at Connell Hill

Connell Hills’ SJI Horse League Show on Saturday saw the rain clouds drift making for a much welcomed dry day following the previous few days down pours.  This unexpected turn in weather heightened spirits of both horse and rider as they undertook their chosen challenges in the indoor arena.  Tracks designed and built, by Mr Killian Clarke, offered riders the opportunity of testing their riding skills as they judged turns with strides portraying their horses athleticism.  The 80 cm class commenced the days jumping which set the standard for the then following classes with double clears for Chelsea Robinson on ‘Lorna Robinsons’ ‘Templehill Ludo W Lady’ and Adele Dallas on her own ‘Flaming Felix’.  And, cor, what a day this moved on to as the 90 cm class got under way and amongst the double clears jumping great rounds were Janet Currie on her very eye-catching ‘Curolea Bobi’ and Clare Spillane-Pattison on her own mare ‘Cor De La’.  Killian then promptly adjusted the course for the 1.0 m class which saw an amazing skilful controlled double clear for Claire Doherty on ‘Gerald Dohertys’ ‘Just Because D&M’ who then went on to successfully claim another double clear in the 1.10 m class.  The track then set for the 1.20 m saw competitors walk preparing their own course of action to see Robert Newell jump a matchless double clear on ‘Colette Doris s’ ‘RNH Boudiccea’.  Ever the hero, Paul Devlin, who just recently returned from Lanaken Horse Show where he conquered an honourary place on the platform, took first on ‘Linda Courtneys’ ‘Caltra Forever’ in the 1.30 m class with Sophie Doherty taking second on her own mare ‘Kiltuns Clover’.
