The Alltech/Gain Autumn Grand Prix League Two Day Show held at Kernan Equestrian Centre, Crossmaglen on Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th October was  very well supported.  Fortunately the  weather  just about held out in time for the Grand Prix to be completed before the storm took hold on Sunday.

Saturday

Saturday’s jumping kicked off with the 1 metre class with 1st prize going to Lorraine McGuinness on North Louth’s Horse Park’s Russian Gold. In the  1.10m class 1st prize went to Michaela Murphy on her father’s Falcon Parc.

The 1.20m & 1.30m classes were sponsored by David Prentice BMW. The 1.20m  class run as a 2 phase was won by seventh in  to jump local girl Mary McShane on Zentus Z.in a time of 33.60 secs.. Mary managed to hold on to her early lead throughout.  Even though Francis Connors on Annaghmore Uslina (34.13secs) and Sinead Loughran on Flight Connection (35.39secs) did their best to better her time they  had to settle for 2nd & 3rd places respectively. In the  main event of the day the 1.30m only five competitors managed to produce double clears The  first of these Shane O’ Reilly on  Judy Murphy’s Jb Master Glen Bar’s time of 29.83secs was soon beaten by James Kernan on Dominic Rice’s Premier Sport  whose time of 26.81 secs proved to be unbeatable giving him 1st place with Shane in 2nd.    Francis Connors and Oilean Uno finished up on 3rd in 36.02secs .

Top place in the first event of the day 1.10m class went to Mark Murphy on Rock of Tasset. Mark also won this competition the previous year on the same horse. Jamie Landers on Judy Murphy’s Kellowaler De Lux took 2nd place and Mark was in the money again on Tommy McGuinness’s Horseware Kilcoltrim in 3rd place. The 1.20m class sponsored by McCaughey Top 24hr Service Station proved a very exciting competition with a high standard of jumping.  Of the eighteen combinations to produce double clear rounds Aoife Kelly on Carte d’Or’s emerged victorious finishing on a time of 31.39secs.. Francis Connors and Casimira were a very close 2nd in a time of 31.57secs and 3rd place went to Courtney Ferris on her own Kylemore Vicki (33.55secs).. The 1.30m class was also sponsored by McCaughey 24hr Top Service Station, Broomfield, Castleblaney  with twelve   combinations in the 2 phase class completing faultless rounds..  Fourth to jump Kenneth Graham on Lenamore Donatella set the pace with a good time of 34.66secs.but as the competition progressed things speeded up with an excellent outcome when young Connor McEneaney on his father’s Moonlite Cavalier, a regular here flew round Tom Holden’s tricky course in an unbeatable time of 28.51secs.

James Kernan was very pleased with his 2nd place on Premier Sport (29.59secs) and Francis Connors put yet another win under his belt with Primo Pandora in 31.27secs. The eagerly awaited main class of the weekend the Gain/Alltech 1.40m Grand Prix sponsored by another local company Golden Irish Eggs, Oram, Castleblaney kicked off in good time.  Only eight  out of  the  starters  made it to the jump off . The substantial jump off track built by international course builder Tom Holden  proved very challenging with first to go in the jumpoff Peter Smyth on Cavalier Rusticana giving us his second clear round in 37.60secs ultimately giving him 4th place.Third in Edward Butler and Small Hero’s time of 43.24secs assured him of 2nd place but following swiftly and not about to beaten was Peter Smyth whose magnificent performance on the grey Admiran Casio in a very fast time of 33.13secs saw him the outright winner of this leg of the  Gain/Alltech Grand Prix.League.  Third place went to Sophie Dalm on Vaillant S (37.27secs), 4th to Peter Smyth on Cavalier Rusticana (37.60secs), 5th to Alex Butler and Vimminka and 6th to Johm McLaughlin on his fathers Java Wild Child (32.68secs). Well Done to all.
