Diamond Seekers at Connell Hill’s SJI Horse League

| September 22, 2014

connellhillConnell Hill opened its gates to the second leg of the Autumn/Winter SJI Horse League on Saturday, 20th September.  The glorious weather added to this most pleasurable day as riders entered the arena in true grandeur all immaculately turned out with judges Joan Cunningham and Julie McLernon never having a dull moment.  Spectators had a most pleasurable day enjoying the opportunity of witnessing riders display their skill of making intricate turns with perfect strides meeting the next jump to literally reach for the clouds, which were no where in sight owing to the glorious weather adding to a wonderful atmosphere.  This awesome day commenced with double clears in the 80 cm class for Chelsea Robinson on ‘Templehill Ludo’ and Pauline McKeown on ‘Touludo’.  Diamond seekers then saw Brian Smyth jump double clear in the 90 cm class on ‘Iroko Quarry Diamond’ and Deborah Newberry in the 1.0 m class on ‘Mullaghdrin Diamond Day’.  Course designer, Killian Clarke, then adjusted the course in the spacious arena with a truly lavish surface for the 1.10 m class which did indeed confirm the magnitude of these magnificent steeds.  Lucy Hanna took the challenge and with skilful riding negotiated each turn to very elegantly jump double clear on the most appropriately named ‘Greannanstown Cougar’.  This show will continue next Saturday, 27th September, at 9.30 am.
