Connell Hill Filled to Capacity for Blue Grass GP Show

| August 27, 2014

connellhillConnell Hill opened the gates of the scenic outdoor arena, with an awesome display of strategically designed course of fences for the very competitive Blue Grass Ulster Region Grand Prix Horse Show.  These demanding tracks throughout the day, designed by Mr Nigel Jess, did indeed prove both horse and riders ability to successfully navigate a successful reward to each chosen challenge as the car, lorry parks and indeed the lane way filled to capacity.  The early birds arrived, choosing their park, for the 90 cm class which saw local girl Victoria Nelson, amongst the double clears, pick up red on ‘Jazz Black Jack’.  This buzz filled day moved to the 1.0 m class which saw Mark Mulrine on ‘Charlton Chloe’ take first place and with only split seconds in it Sean Nangle on ‘Sally’ second placing, Alice Foster on ‘Stonsewalls Jessie’ third and Jordan Lynch fourth on ‘Sonyador’.  Its’ all about being a star and none so more than when the 1.10 m class got under way, with a huge entrant list competitors cut corners, sped up, each in a friendly bid to beat one another but try as they would none could beat Sarah Burns, speeding home in first place, on ‘Georgies Star’ with Lisa Allen picking up second on ‘Keeford Elamo’, Catherine Drian third on ‘Alaska-M’ and Laura Brown, fourth, on ‘Bunninadden Beauty’.  This high competition show received huge support and saw the added bonus of fine weather making for a most atmospheric day but was swiftly moving on and the decision was taken to hold the Grand Prix class next.  Spectators and owners patiently stood by the sidelines and witnessed, what can only be described as ‘world-class’ jumping right before their eyes as competitors displayed their talented riding skills.  The glory of winning this class was Daniel Coyle on Fiona Coyles’ ‘Arion-E’ as they took an early lead in a super fast time, competitors really chased his time which saw Rebecca Patterson on Olivia Pattersons’ ‘Knockroe Decies Girl’ give it all to shoot into second place with Catherine Thornton on her own ‘Milano (IHB)’ picking up a well earned third, Suzanne Posnett on Pamela Posnetts’ ‘Maxim Van Overis Z’ fourth, Stephanie Morrison on her own ‘Napoleon Yac’ fifth and Richard Smyth sixth on his ‘Charlton Clio’.  The course was then promptly set for the 1.20 m class and what a cracking class this was with spirits still high the air oozed excitement as once again corners were cut striving to beat the clock.  Simon Scotts efforts paid off as he  took the honours of first place on ‘Dullerton Eclipse’ with Deborah Palmer taking second on ‘Moyletra Maximus’ and Laura Brown third on ‘KEC Purple Pineapple’.

Connell Hill would like to say a huge thank you to Judges David Greene, Janet Liggett and Julie McLernon, Course Designer, Nigel Jess and arena crew, Jim Prime Photography, all those who helped and also the competitors and grooms for their support, making this a most enjoyable day, hope to see everyone in the near future during the next scheduled shows.
