Held in the main arena at the RDS, just before the Aga Khan Trophy competition, another top class International field of horses and riders lined out for what proved to be a gripping contest with the result hanging in the balance right up to the finish.
Irish Aga Khan team member Cian O Connor held the early jump-off lead with the seven year old Aramis 573, before being overtaken by Dutch rider Vincent Voorn who looked to be heading for a win with Casino.
However Darragh Kenny, who is on a stunning run of form winning numerous International classes in the USA before jumping a fantastic double clear round in the Nations Cup at Hickstead in the UK, scorched around the famous Ballsbridge arena to take a deserved victory with the eight year old stallion Chin Quidam VDL, who is owned by LLC Hyperion Stud and by the sire Chin Chin.
Vincent Voorn held on to take runner up spot with Casino, while Frenchman Jerome Hurel took third spot with Sllene Belmaniere and  Cian O Connor close behind in fourth with Aramis 573.
The top 20 horses and riders now go forward to the Sunday’s prestigious Connolly’s RED MILLS 7 & 8 year old International Final, at 10.30am in the RDS main arena, where a two round competition with jump-off will decide the overall winner.
Along with a very generous prize-fund, the owner of the winning Connolly’s RED MILLS 7 & 8 year old horse will receive The “John Higgins” Memorial Perpetual Challenge Trophy, while The “Corry” Perpetual Challenge Trophy will be presented to the rider of the winning horse.
