outdoor dressage league.

Week ending 20th July 2014, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

Sure as one run of shows comes to an end  another is been scheduled to keep competitors happy at Ravensdale Lodge. This coming week sees the final of all spring / summer leagues which commenced at the end of April with five finals up for decision. There will be the annual two week break to give everyone a chance to breath and enjoy the Dublin horse show at the RDS in early August before the six week summer / autumn schedule of shows commence. The same format which is being currently run at Ravensdale Lodge will remain for the six week period with outdoor dressage scheduled for Tuesday commencing 10th August. Dressage has grown steadily in popularity over the last few years at the centre with large numbers taking advantage of the listed judges and surfaces which are watered when necessary to hone their flatwork skills. SJI registered jumping for horses and ponies will continue to run on Wednesday commencing 13th August. Horse classes from 80cm to 1.30m, all of which are modified, commencing at 11am with the usual 128cm, 138cm & 148cm modified pony classes running from 5.30pm. The jumping tracks, all of which are built by the top course designers in the country will remain

open for schooling on Thursday & Friday. National bodies such as SJI and HSI, combinations with young, inexperienced horses or instructors who wish to train their students have made good use of the opportunity to use these courses as a training aid for the future and schooling slots can be booked through the office. The Friday evening horse & pony training league has remained one of the most popular shows at Ravensdale Lodge over the years. Large numbers flock to the centre to take advantage of the reduced cost of entry, good surfaces, weekly class prizes and to be part of the social occasion it has grown into. The new run of shows commences Friday 15th August from 5pm with the usual array of classes from X poles to 1.10m.

Arena eventing will continue on Saturdays from August 16th with the usual start time of 2pm for the 70cm class which will be followed by the 85cm class at 3pm and the 1m class at 4pm. Weather & ground conditions permitting it is hoped to extend the run of the very popular cross-jump series with a new league scheduled to start on Sunday 17th August. This two phase competition consisting of a show jumping phase before combinations go out on to the cross-country course has a start time of 12 noon for the 1m class which will be followed by the 85cm class at approximately 1pm and a 70cm class at 2pm. Slotting nicely into the middle of this six week run of shows is the SJI registered Autumn Grand Prix horse show over the weekend of Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th September. Last year this show produced some of the best jumping in the country with former world champion Dermott Lennon winning an epic jump off in the Grand Prix class over Captain Brian Curran-Cournane and current Olympic bronze medallist Cian O’ Connor on horses that have gone on to record top level Grand Prix successes around the globe. On a different level and remaining true to the ethos of running top class shows for every level of horse & rider, Ravensdale Lodge is set to hold another of their very popular “Bumper” bank holiday shows on Sunday 3rd August before the summer break. This show will have a start time of 11am with sponsored classes courtesy of Ravensdale Lodge, Mackins Horse Feeds, Horse First, Moorhill Saddlery & Botanica International on offer and classes will run from X poles to 1.10m. So as one door closes and the curtain falls on a busy run of shows another door opens with an equally hectic schedule. All of which can only mean one thing,  good news for competitors who will benefit from the world-class facilities at Ravensdale Lodge, top class judges and course designers and weekly class prizes on offer, bring it on!
