‘Cor’ What a ‘Diamond’ Day for Connell Hill’s SJI Summer Horse League

| July 8, 2014

connellhillCompetitors made a very worthwhile trip to Connell Hill for this the fifth week of the SJI Summer Horse League on Thursday jumping pleasurably outdoors in the sunshine.  The courses, once again, were topnotch with a surface which can only be described as ‘world-class’ as it provides excellent rideability.  This surface, which is highly maintained, furnishes riders with the opportunity to go onwards and upwards thus achieving greater goals.  Clare Spillane-Pattison on ‘Cor De La’ and Emma Barkley on ‘Tawnybrack Diamond’ certainly achieved their goals jumping double clears in the 80 and 90 cm classes.  As the parking areas filled up the day just got brighter and brighter with competitors entering their chosen challenges and await their opportunity to go forward and display precision riding as they endeavoured to successfully navigate these tracks.  Paul Tang on ‘Neat Mamma Mia’ and Julie Steele on ‘Wellview Lenny’ were amongst those achieving this as they successfully jumped double clear in the 1.0 m class.  The next class, the hugely popular 1.10 m class, saw Liam McKee on ‘LMK Di Caprio’ jump the first double clear followed by Lucy Hanna, on the most appropriately named, ‘Greannanstown Cougar’.  Then came the 1.20 m class set by Will and his arena crew and with last minute tweeks and adjustments the journey began which saw Deborah Palmer on ‘Moyletra Maximus’ take the very honourable first place with Walter Stewart, courageously cutting corners, to take second on ‘Diamond Courage’.  The final class of the day, the grand 1.30 m class, was set awaiting technical riding to successfully accomplish double clears against the clock, and with this in mind riders warmed up and took the challenge which saw John Higgins, calmly and collectively, jump double clear winning on ‘KEC Freefalling’ with Laura Reid picking up second on ‘Nonavic Temara’.  Don’t forget three weeks remaining to the final on Thursday 31st July at 10.00 am.
