‘Glensman’ Top Man at Connell Hill SJI Horse Show

| June 23, 2014

The continuing Mediterranean weather led competitors to Connell Hill for the third week of this Summer SJI Horse League to jump in the outstanding outdoor arena, where competitors are to jump at four league dates to qualify for the final on Thursday 31st July.  This arena has a most superb surface which encourages horses forward to exhibit their true performance jumping courses designed with this focus in mind.  Catherine Quee, from Bangor, on ‘Lisbane Hulabaloo’ took the first double clear of the day in the 90 cm class.  As the course was adjusted for the 1.0 m class competitors welcomed the opportunity to relax and enjoy a coffee/soft drink whilst having friendly banter with one-another.  The bell rang and then the serious stuff kicked in with local girl Pauline McKeown on ‘Miss Darcy’, Rebecca Sim, Coleriane, on ‘Jazz Black Jack’ and Lauren Fulton on ‘Wicked Clover’ amongst the double clears.  The course set for the 1.10 m class required perfect control with precision of stride as competitors walked the course in preparation for the challenge which saw Kathryn Watt, from Cullybackey, demonstrate her skills jumping double clear on ‘Derg Bonnie Rose’.  This show was really heating up not only ‘temperature wise’ but ‘competition wise’ as competitors took to the arena for the extensive 1.20 m class with very appropriately named horses taking poll positions, Melanie Geddis, Stoneyford, on ‘Jaydious Diamond’ took an early unbeatable lead winning first place with Joanne Jarden, Glenavy. on ‘Creating A Storm’ taking second and Noel McKee, also Glenavy, third on ‘Keeford Sundance’.  Lucy Buchanan, with her top man ‘LCC Glensman (IHR)’ displayed her technical riding skills winning the 1.30 m class with Lisa Boyle close on her heals taking a well earned second on ‘Bannside Boy’.

Summer SJI Horse League continues on Thursday 26th June at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m.  Show Dates: Thursday 26th June, 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and Final on Thursday 31st July.  Competitors to jump at four league dates to qualify for the final.
