‘Shane’ The King of the Castle at Connell Hill
Training plays a major role in any sport and none more so than the ‘equine athlete’ with the rider aboard and taking advantage of this massive opportunity was horse enthusiasts who arrived to jump at Connell Hill on Friday night. This show not only gave riders the opportunity of training over tracks attaining controlled distance but also confidence in a relaxed environment where help/guidance is on hand.
The evening kicked off with the 50 cm class with a promising night ahead as Alex McMaster on ‘Miles’ and Bethany Gordon on ‘Shane’ picked up red for jumping clear rounds. The course then adjusted for the 60 cm class then saw Bethany on ‘Shane’ jump double clear with Sally Mackie on ‘Jiggy’. A new combination joined forces to jump the 70 cm class, and certainly one to watch for the future, was Erin Kennedy on ‘Loggie’ as they jumped double clear with Andi Scott on her super wee horse ‘Toffee’, Sally Mackie on ‘Sugar’ and King of the Castle claiming another red was Bethany Gordon on ‘Shane’. Erin Kennedy on ‘Loggie’, Sally Mackie on ‘Sugar’ and Andi Scott on ‘Toffee’, with their previous achievements, all then took the challenge of the 80 cm class to successfully jump double clear.
Training Shows will continue on Friday night, as jumping is outdoor this show will commence at 6.30 pm sharp, X-Poles – 1.0 m classes, where everyone will receive a warm welcome with café facilities for hot and cold drinks/snacks.
Summer SJI Horse League continues on Thursdays at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m. Show Dates: Thursday 19th and 26th June, 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and Final on Thursday 31st July. Competitors to jump at four league dates to qualify for final (this league commenced on 5th June).
N.I. Dressage Show on Saturday 28th June.
