Week ending 8th & 15th June 2014, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

With the spring / summer outdoor run of leagues and shows well underway at Ravensdale Lodge the centre added two new leagues to its busy schedule in the past few weeks. There are very few days when there are no obstacles in the outdoor all-weather fibre sand arena at the centre with Tuesday being the only day when this 100m x 40m arena is cleared of jumps in advance of competition or schooling. With demand from riders for an outdoor dressage league, show organisers have taken full advantage of the level surface to hold a Tuesday evening dressage league on sand which is now into its third week with numbers growing weekly. The usual line up of listed judges are assisting with the league which has a start time of 6pm while all weekly tests which run to Tuesday 22nd July can be found on the Ravensdale Lodge website. In keeping with the centres policy of presenting the best prepared surfaces possible to competitors the arena is raked, rolled and watered when necessary in advance of this competition. There is the added advantage of two indoor arenas to warm up in for all competitions if the weather is not cooperating, ensuring combinations stay high & dry before riding the perfect test.

While dressage marks the beginning of the week at Ravensdale Lodge, the second new league has been slotted in at the very end of the competition week on Sunday. The new Moorhill Saddlery sponsored cross-jump series at the centre commenced with a burst of life on Sunday 8th June with combinations travelling in large numbers from far and wide. Indications had been good with feedback from competitors in advance of the event being very positive however the stream of horse boxes and lorries down the driveway on the day took everyone by surprise. This exciting competition comprises of a round of show jumps, typically 15, in the outdoor fibre sand arena. Once riders have finished the show jumping phase they then make their way out on to the cross-country course to jump a selection of professionally made solid and portable cross-country fences with anything up to 18 jumping efforts, including a “joker” fence on track. The smile on riders faces on finishing the cross-country phase says it all as the adrenalin and thrill of cross-country jumping kicks in.  Competition starts with the 1m class at 12pm which is followed by the 85cm class which will not commence before 1pm and finally the 70cm class which will not start before 2pm and this league runs weekly (with the exception of Sunday 6th July) until Sunday 27th July. Sandwiched between these two new leagues Ravensdale Lodge play host to the three other regular weekly leagues which have been running since the end of April with SJI registered show jumping taking place every Wednesday. The registered horse league has a start time of 11am with modified classes running from 80cm to 1.30m while the usual modified 128cm, 138cm & 148cm pony classes kick off at 5.30pm. The course of fences stay up on Thursday & Friday for anyone who wants to school and is seen by many as great preparation for horses in advance of competition, schooling slots can be reserved through the office. Friday evening sees the ever popular horse & pony training league which has a start time of 5pm due to large weekly entries and there are classes to suit everyone from X poles to 1.10m. Saturday sees the introduction of portable cross-country fences to the jumping track for the arena eventing league which will typically has up to 22 jumping efforts on track weekly, over half of which will be portables. This competition starts with the 70cm class at 2pm and is followed by the 85cm class at 3pm and the 1m class at 4pm.
