Week ending 5th May 2014, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

Four finals over four days will always create a buzz of excitement as the curtain fell on the winter / spring season of leagues at Ravensdale Lodge. This particular run had a heightened sense of anticipation as the hugely successful “Smart league initiative” drew to a close and five lucky people went away with five hi-tech tablets over the course of the three “Smart Leagues” which was reported in last week’s paper. Aside from the tablets there was the small issue of 20 individual leagues and finals to contend with and up to six places in some finals meant a veritable treasure trove of prizes for competitors but a logistical nightmare for show organisers.

First competition up for decision was the SJI registered indoor horse league on Thursday 24th April. Culloville rider Janine Farrell had a great afternoon as she won the 90cm final and was placed second behind Carlingford rider Conrad Mc Guinness & Animo Cruise in the 1m class on her own Blackmoor Heather, second in the 90cm class was Hannah Joyce with Watchful Eye. Third behind Mc Guinness and Farrell in the 1m class was Lynn Patterson with Cujo while Dundalk rider Caroline Mc Guirke slotted into fourth place in the class with her own Lisbane Callitera. Dubai based Sheikh Samir Mirdad has mixed equestrian codes over the past couple of months to great effect and has been in attendance at Ravensdale Lodge over the past few weeks in preparation for Balmoral show. John Floody won the 1.10m class on board Sheikh Samir’s Mirdad’s Hawa, to round off a good class Floody also slotted into second place on board Francie Hughes’ Ballyknock Diamond. Floody was in great form also in the remaining two classes, the 1.20m and 1.30m finals, coming home first and second in both classes. Floody won the 1.20m class with Brian Kieran’s HTS Blackrock and slotting Ballyknock Diamond into second place again, Hannah Joyce came home third in the 1.20m class on her own Van Clover while Floody picked up some minor place money by finishing fourth on Sheikh Samir’s Mirdad’s Hawa. Jb Ryan’s Daughter was Floody’s winning mount in the 1.30m class while HTS Blackrock had to settle for second place on this occasion. Floody finished off another very successful campaign at Ravensdale Lodge by winning the leading rider prize of an overnight stay with breakfast for two people in the four star Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dundalk.

Home rider Rosalyn Connolly won the class on board Ravensdale Duffy while Ravensdale Seaspray slotted into second and third place in the class under Kayla Mc Entaggart and Eve Connolly respectively. Anna Larkin & Sinitta came home fourth in this class and Natasha Neville with Flash came home fifth, Natasha & Flash won the X pole league. The 60cm class was won by Anna Larkin with Sinitta, Shea Mc Kinley with Biscuit came second and also won the league while X poles winner Rosalyn Connolly slotted into third place with Duffy. The 70cm class league and final was won by Lisburn rider Georgia Kirkwood with Debonair, Trevor Cardwell with his own Cassie came second in the class while another Ravensdale horse, this time Ravensdale Ebony came third under Dara Collins while fourth place went to Katelyn King and Sandy. Fiona Cumesky put in a fine performance to win the 80cm class with Lola. Trevor Cardwell and Cassie had to settle for second place once again in this class while Kate Kenwright and Storm placed third and league winner Orla Moriarity with Thunder were fourth, Ravensdale Ebony placed fifth, this time with Emily Molloy. 80cm league winner, Orla Moriarity won the 90cm final with Thunder while Jim Griffin came home second in the class with his own Hughie, 80cm class winner, Fiona Cumesky with Lola came third in the class. 90cm league winner, Eleanor Hoey came forth with Sascha while Kate Kenwright with Storm came home in fifth place. Jessica Finnegan started what was to be a successful weekend of competition at Ravensdale Lodge by winning the 1.10m class.

Saturday 26th May saw an exciting climax to what had been a very successful arena eventing league with three league and class finals up for decision. The 70cm class was first up and John Downey, who had put in some exceptional performances with Smitty had the league title already sewn up and the pair duly obliged in the final by winning it as well. Second in the 70cm class final was Lorraine Mc Elroy with her own Cass, third place went to  Jane Leighton with Milfords Lady while fourth place went to the ultra consistent pairing of Wendy Byrne with Dylan. Kate Kenwright had the 85cm league title won before the competition started on Saturday afternoon and as with John Downey in the 70cm class Kate won the final as well with Storm to cap a fine weekend for the Dundalk rider. 70cm class winner John Downey with Smitty had to be content with second place in the 85cm class while Ethan Smith with Bluestone Ice slotted into third place. The 1m league and final was won by Orla Mc Gowan with Manus Boy. So to the last leg of the marathon of leagues and finals on Sunday 27th May where indoor dressage took centre stage under the watchful eye of judge David Patterson. Breige Farrelly won both the league and class 1 final which was the BD Intro B test, Farrelly with Panda Bear had an exceptional weekly run of form over the 13 weeks of the competition. Second in class 1 was the Kilkeel partnership of Shenna Young with Denali, third place went to Amber Lucas from Lisburn with Milo while Castlebellingham rider Linda Nulty with Calamity Jack placed fourth and Joanne Corrigan with Shadow finished in fifth place. Breige Farrelly with Panda Bear won the league in class 2 as well but was pipped into second place in the final by Jennifer Mc Cann riding Oakhill Charm in the BD Prelim 14 test. Class 3 final, BD Prelim 18 was won by Jessica Finnegan with Tommy Girl, Finnegan who had performed so well in all three “Smart Leagues” beat class 2 winner, Jennifer Mc Cann with Oakhill Charm into second place however Mc Cann had the consolation of winning the league in class 3. Class 4, Novice 34 league and final was won by Scarvagh rider Allan Dewhurst with his wife Jan’s Podge. Allan will now have to give up the as Jan intends to compete during the Summer season with Podge.
