Week ending 27th April 2014, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre

It seems such a short time since the announcement of the Smart Leagues initiative at Ravensdale Lodge, in actuality it was nearly five months ago! After fourteen weeks of great competitive action at the centre it came down to three finals on Friday, Saturday & Sunday and when the dust had settled five people went home very happy with five hi-tech smart tablets to play with! The first of the smart leagues up for decision was the Friday evening horse & pony training league. Large turnout’s had been the order of the day for this popular run of shows with many combinations qualified for the final. There were two hi-tech tablets up for grabs in this league, one for the combination with the most points over the course of the fourteen weeks and Georgia Kirkwood from Lisburn, who had jumped her own Debonair every week in both the 70cm & 80cm classes was the clear winner of the first tablet on offer. The second tablet would be determined by a draw as all qualified combinations, regardless of points, were put in a hat and the lucky name drawn by judge Noleen Johnston was Kayla Mc Entaggart who had partnered one of the centre’s ponies, Ravensdale Seaspray in the X poles class to great effect. Kayla could not wait for the draw after the X poles class so she got a wonderful surprise the following morning when she turned up for her regular lesson and found a tablet waiting for her. Competition then moved on to the Mackins Horse Feeds indoor arena eventing final on Saturday. This run of shows had been very well supported over the weeks with large numbers in attendance for every competition. Once again there was a tablet on offer to all qualified combinations whose names went into the draw. Unlike the first draw on Friday night when the lucky name came from the very first class of the competition, the name that was drawn on Saturday came from the last class and the very last competitor on the day. Orla Mc Gowan and Manus Boy who had won the 1m league & final just minutes earlier were the lucky winners and between the smart tablet, league & final prizes Orla’s parents could hardly carry all her prizes to the jeep! So on to the final competition of the week, the indoor dressage league on Sunday. As with Saturdays draw someone went home with a big haul of prizes on the day. Breige Farrelly, who had been ultra consistent over the course of the league with her own Panda Bear had won the league and final for class 1 and had followed up by winning the league in class 2 and coming second in the final. Breige capped a fine league with the tablet on the day as her name was drawn out of the hat by judge David Patterson. There was one remaining tablet up for grabs and this was for the leading combined points combination over the course of the three leagues on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Local rider Kate Kenwright had planned her campaign with her own Storm well, deciding which competitions and classes to target and even ensuring Storm would be well rested by stabling him at Ravensdale Lodge every Friday night. The partnership had jumped in the 80cm, 90cm & even a couple of times in the 1m classes on Friday evening and then the combination jumped in the 85cm class on Saturday. The pairing won the 85cm class league and

It pays to be "smart"! The final of the five tablets put up by Ravensdale Lodge as part of their smart leagues initiative was won by Briege Farrelly at Sundays indoor dressage league final. final on Saturday and placed in both the 80cm & 90cm class finals on Friday evening and the points secured over the four leagues competed in ensured they would win the combined points tablet. At times Ravensdale Lodge resembled Santa’s grotto or a tech store over the three days such was the array of prizes on offer to competitors. The winter / spring run of shows which commenced at the end of January had been a great success with weekly class prizes for all competitions, fantastic prizes in the final and to cap things off 5 super smart hi-tech tablets were given away over the three finals, a horse lorry would not have carried all the prizes given out over the fourteen weeks! Good news for competitors is that it all kicks off again this week in the outdoor fibre sand arena with the start of the spring / summer run of shows which commence on Wednesday with SJI registered horse jumping from 11am with the usual modified classes from 80cm (M) to 1.30m (M). This show jumping course will remain open for schooling on both Thursday & Friday and time slots can be booked through the office. Another horse & pony training league commences on Friday evening from 5.30pm with classes from X poles to 1.10m while Saturday sees the return of arena eventing which will be mixed with cross-jump depending on weather & ground conditions. There will be a start time of 2pm for the 70cm class, the 85cm class will not start before 3pm and the 1m class will not start before 4pm. Riders can school over these courses after competition on Saturday and also on Sunday which will be an added attraction to anyone  thinking of entering the dressage league which starts on Sunday at 2pm. By now competitors will not need reminding of the quality, service and value for money on offer at Ravensdale Lodge. Weekly class prizes, with a few surprises, will be on offer for all competitions in addition to world-class facilities, surfaces, well designed jumping tracks and top class judges for all competitions as Ravensdale Lodge continues to set the standard within the industry. Results from last week’s final can be seen below and a full report on all four finals will be carried in next weeks paper.
