Connell Hill Springs into CashJumpingIreland for Easter
With all the fun of collecting eggs during Easter competitors still in high spirits travelled to Connell Hill for the ‘Cashjumpingireland’ show on Easter Tuesday to collect cash instead. This fair competition show aimed at competitors of all levels was an exciting adrenalin buzzing day oozing enthusiasm which saw riders returning home full of achievement. Winnings are recorded in National League tables and the top 50 riders in each class will qualify for the National Cashjumping finals. The tracks, designed by Mr Nigel Jess, were forward flowing yet demanded riding which demonstrated control with fast thinking as riders negotiated corners in an effort to shave seconds off the clock over this first class surface in the outdoor arena with a most scenic view.
This most enjoyable show commenced with the 60 cm class and the first presentation of the day was to Jodie Creighton, setting the trend for the day with a super fast time, winning on ‘Monarch’ with Tori Jewess picking up second on ‘Teeshan Lad’ in the pony section and Claire Black receiving first in the horse section on ‘Isabella’. Claire then took the challenge of the 70 cm class which she, again, won on ‘Isabella’ with Brittany McAfee on ‘Tessie’ taking first in the pony section and Tori Jewess on ‘Teeshan Lad’ second. Competitors patiently awaited as Nigel set to work on the 80 cm class, which saw some breathtaking rounds of jumping but proudly receiving first place was Johanna Molloy on ‘Seapatrick Diamond’ with Michelle Strange picking up second on ‘Patience’ in the horse section and winning the pony section was Charlie Jewess on his super pony ‘Said ‘N’ Dun’. The 90 cm class got under way with Hannah Patterson on ‘CS Simply Ginger’ jumping the first double clear round, Lucy Hamilton then entered the arena on ‘Mount Cashel Queen’ jumping double clear to hold the pole position throughout the class but Shirley Smith on ‘Jailhouse Rock’ sped over the course pushing Lucy into second place, but hey there was more to come Hannah Patterson on her second horse ‘CS Emeroo Cross’, and this combination changed the result yet again winning in an exceedingly fast time in the horse section with Brittany McAfee winning the pony section on ‘Jessie J’. This Easter Tuesday show became more exciting as the day wore on with Dean Cotton throwing caution to the wind as he nimbly cut corners to take the honours of first place in the horse section of the 1.0 m class on ‘Coolda Castaway’, Julie Henderson picking up second on ‘Cloncoose Valefor’ and Lisa Dundee third on ‘Murphys Harlequin. Julie and Lisa then took the challenge of the 1.10 m class which saw Julie win on ‘Cloncoose Valefor’ and Lisa picking up a well earned second on ‘Murphys Harlequin’. Elle Johnston had a most successful day winning the pony sections of the 1.0 m and 1.10 m classes on ‘Midnight’. Lee Johnston took control of the 1.20 m class winning on ‘Democrat’ with Victoria Brown cruising into first place in the 1.30 m class on ‘Zion Cruise’.
A huge thank you to Blue Grass for sponsoring this show, Course Designer Mr Nigel Jess, Judge Mr David Greene, Arena Crew and you the competitors without whom the show would not have been the success it was, and we hope to see you all return for the next ‘Cashjumpingireland’ show.
