Week ending 20th April 2014 results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

A small piece of history was made on Tuesday 15th April as the first ever qualifier for the new 4 & 5 year old Young Event horse class at Balmoral in May was staged in glorious sunshine at Ravensdale Lodge. This new competition was very well supported with close on 40 starters doing a dressage test followed by an assessment of confirmation & type and finishing with a round of jumping. The dressage & jumping phases included suitability for purpose judging and the jumping phase was made up of show jumps mixed with portable cross-country fences. Many of the competitors made good use of the previous weeks arena eventing competition at Ravensdale Lodge. For some, it paid rich reward as Emma Jackson & Colin Halliday who had made the journey the previous Saturday filled six of the ten qualifying spaces for Balmoral. Jackson filled the top two positions in class one for four year olds with Sean Renolds’ Lux Aventi & her own The Cool Guy respectively while Colin Halliday filled third & fifth place in the class on board Camilla Mc Donald’s Cornascriebe Womanizer & David Kirkpatrick’s Redwood Silver Slipper. The last remaining qualifying slot in the four year old section was filled by Rachel Moore who finished fourth riding her own Oldyard Imp. With only five qualifying slots available, Gwen Scott riding Francis Dunne’s Nigra Flight filled the first reserve position by finished sixth. Jackson did the double again in the five year old section winning the class on JP Finlay’s Cushlas Sky Imp and finishing fourth on Susan Steward’s Waterloo Sunset. Aubrey Chapman slotted into second in the class riding his own Sambuco while Steven Smith was third with Lucinda Blakinston Houston’s Beltrim Sweet Clover. The final qualifying slot was picked up by Mark Robinson on board Lawrence Patterson’s Drumnaconnell Beachbabe while Catherine Robinson riding her own Carsonstown Lord were sixth which made them first reserve for Balmoral. The author for this piece was hoping for a fifth qualifying slot for Emma Jackson but it was not to be. Imagine the headline, “Jackson Five at Ravensdale Lodge”, it would make you take a second look!

It was another hectic week of competition at Ravensdale Lodge as the penultimate week of all four leagues were run with large entries over the four days, full results below. Meanwhile the final preparations were put to the forthcoming spring / summer schedule at the centre. Competitors can look forward to an exciting season packed with the usual array of shows and events covering every discipline from registered show jumping to unregistered horse & pony training shows, arena eventing /cross-jump and dressage. The run of outdoor shows commences on Wednesday 30th April with SJI registered show jumping for horses from 11am with modified classes from 80cm (M) to 1.30m (M). The registered course will remain open for schooling all day Thursday and Friday and slots can be booked through the office. Friday May 2nd sees the first of the spring / summer horse & pony training shows and the very popular format remains unchanged with classes from X poles to 1.10m and a start time of 5.30pm. Commencing on Saturday 3rd May there will be a combination of arena eventing and cross-jump over the cross country course depending on weather and ground conditions. These courses will be open for schooling every Sunday and can be booked through the office. A new dressage league will commence on Sunday 4th May and full details of the spring / summer schedule can be found on the centres website, www.ravensdalelodge.com
