Ladies First at Connell Hill’s SJI Horse League

The last chance to qualify for the final of this spring league, which will be held next Saturday 26^th April at 10.00 am, saw competitors throw off their jackets jumping outdoor in the glorious sunshine.  This show saw some big jumping by horses so well turned out they glistened as the sun bounced off their backs.  The picture postcard  arena, with a background of spring foliage blooming, was a magnificent display of colourful fences designed by Mr W Crean.  The early birds arrived and promptly warmed up for the 80 cm class and putting best hoof forward with double clears were Clare Spillane-Pattison on ‘Cor De La’, Stephanie Doherty on ‘Beechmount Champ’, Emma Barkley on ‘Tawnybrack Diamond’ and Lauren Fulton on ‘Wicked Clover’.  The early start paid off for Clare and Lauren as they then took the challenge of the 90 cm class jumping double clear.  Mr Will Crean assisted by the very able arena crew, Alanna Dunlop and Victoria Nelson, got busy and set the track for the 1.0 m class and claiming the first double clear was ‘Emperor G’ ridden by Liam McKee.  The 1.10 class saw some very high quality jumping and quickly setting the standard for the class was Gareth Clingan jumping double clear on Patricia Connon’s stallion ‘Quick Step’.  With the bright sky and the heat rising the 1.20 m class got under way and literally springing past the finish in first place was Lucy Hanna on ‘Spring Rumba’ with Gareth Clingan picking up second on ‘Senor D’ and Alison McClean on ‘Shilow Natal’ third place.  This glorious day enjoyed by everyone all too quickly was drawing to a close as the course was prepared for the 1.30 m class, competitors all eager to jump against the clock and take the honour of first place warmed up, and it really was ladies first as Kirsty Parke won on ‘Bayan de la Bouverie’ with Liam McKee taking second on Olivia McCormack’s mare ‘Penelope Cruz’.

 

The Grand Finale of this Spring SJI Horse League is this Saturday, 26^th April, at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m.  Competitors must have jumped at five league dates to qualify for final.

 

5 Week SJI Horse League commencing Saturday 3^rd May, 10^th, 17^th, 24^th and final on 31^st May at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m.

 

Training Shows will continue outdoor on Friday nights commencing at 6.30 pm sharp, X-Poles – 1.10 m classes, where everyone will receive a warm welcome with café facilities for hot and cold drinks/snacks.
