Kernan Equestrian Centre RUAS Balmoral Qualifier Sat 12th April
A qualifier for RUAS Balmoral Show was held at The Kernan Equestrian Centre on Saturday April 12th.
This was the first outdoor show of the season. The first competition, the Amateur kicked off in good time with the A’s going first. Nine of the combinations through to the jumpoff came from the A category as did the eventual winner Fran Rush on Zero Wattage whose fast time of 42.60secs set a pace that couldn’t be bettered. Although Enda Ivanoff on Quinnsflight from the AA’s did his best his time of 44.31 secs gave him 2nd place and Emma Andrews an A rider on The Elf seemed very happy with her 3rd place having completed her clear round in a time of 47.93secs.
The second competition for 5Year Old horses produced a worthy winner in Angela Percy on Darwin D’Hyrencourt. Angela was one of only five combinations to go clear giving her a place in the jumpoff.. Last to go Angela, knowing all she needed was a careful clear round to take first prize that was exactly what she did . Gwen Scott and My Mighty Mouse were 2nd and Ian Smith on DJ Jazz 3rd.
Next was the 6/7 Year Old event. The standard of jumping was much higher in this category with fourteen going clear and through to the jump off. The eighth of these to jump clear in a time of 41.96secs was Sean Nangle on Altrest. Sean managed to hold on to his lead thoughout the rest of the competition emerging victorious. Philip McGuane and Crocdile Dundee from the Barry O’Connor Stables jumped clear in 45.99secs giving him 2nd place and Angela Percy was in the ribbons again qualifing her second horse Caspian in 46.25 secs and taking 3rd place. JP McGranaghan also qualified his second horse Lismeen Luidam whose time of 46.29 secs gave him 2nd place.
The last competition of the day was the 1.35m class. Only ten of the thirty four starters produced clear rounds with six of these going double clear over course designer Alistair Megahey’s strong course which rode very well whilst proving challenging to horse and rider. First to go Simon Scott on Caroneybridge Sister Kate set up the challenge with a clear round in 47.40 secs. Simon’s time could not be bettered even though several picked up the gauntlet but were let down by knocking a pole. 2nd place went to Tom Doherty and Intro-Link Larry in a time of 53.06secs and 3rd to Luke Campbell and Voessa Du Monden in 53.55secs.
A good day’s sport was enjoyed by all.. Kernan Equestrian Centre wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all those who contributed to the day. A special thanks to RUAS Balmoral’s Terence McKeague, commentator John Chambers & SJAI representative Colleen Glasgow..
