Another busy week at Ravensdale Lodge
With weather conditions not being what they should for this time of year and some events not running due to wet ground, numbers remain good for all events at Ravensdale Lodge over the past few weeks. Indoor arenas and good surfaces are always a draw for riders when the weather is inclement, add to this well designed show jumping courses, well build portable cross-country fences, experienced judges for all jumping and dressage competitions as well as a super atmosphere & value for money then you have a recipe for a great day out. The numbers for all competitions at Ravensdale Lodge have grown steadily since the season started at the end of January. The Mackins Horse Feeds indoor arena eventing league which runs on Saturday afternoon at the centre has, in particular seen a dramatic rise in numbers competing over the past few weeks. Combinations eager to participate in this competition, which combines a mix of show jumps with well made portable cross-country, working hunter & derby type fences have flocked to Ravensdale Lodge since the league commenced. The course will typically contain up to 22 or 23 jumping efforts, of which at least 50% will be portable cross-country fences and each week there is a “joker” fence which is an optional fence which normally asks a question of horse & rider. Weekly class prizes, courtesy of Mackins Horse Feeds, the chance of winning two smart tablets and a new portable fence on occasion adds to the appeal of this great value competition which costs €15 or £12 per entry. Competitions continue at Ravensdale Lodge this week with the Crowne Plaza Dundalk SJI registered indoor horse league which has six modified classes from 80cm (M) to 1.30m (M) and a start time of 11am. The indoor horse & pony training league continues on Friday from 5.30pm with the usual range of classes from X poles to 1.10m and this competition also boasts weekly class prizes courtesy of Ravensdale Lodge. Mackins Horse Feeds indoor arena eventing league will run again on Saturday with a start time for the 70cm class of 2pm which is followed by the 85cm class which will not start before 3pm and the 1m class which will not commence before 4pm. The week will finish as usual with indoor dressage on Sunday afternoon from 2pm and all weekly classes can be found on the Ravensdale Lodge website. A reminder that Ravensdale Lodge will host the first qualifier for the RUAS Balmoral 4 & 5 year old Young Event Horse classes on Tuesday 15th April.
