Ravensdale Lodge are set to play host to the first qualifier for a new equestrian competition to be held at Balmoral Show in May. The Young Event Horse class will be divided into two sections for four and five year olds respectively and will be run in the same format as the equivalent classes in Dublin. “We were delighted to be asked to hold a qualifier for Balmoral in May, RUAS are a great organisation and run a fantastic show. I have been going to the show since I was a kid and it has always been the highlight of the early season so it is great to be involved in the process” stated Niall Connolly of Ravensdale Lodge. “This qualifier compliments some of the other shows and qualifiers that we hold here at Ravensdale Lodge such as our RDS qualifiers for Connemara’s, Performance Irish Draft and FEHL. The jumping phase of the Young Event Horse qualifier is very similar to our weekly arena eventing leagues that we run throughout the year which has a mix of show jumps and cross-country / working hunter / derby type fences. We will be running indoor arena eventing over the next couple of Saturdays which will be an ideal opportunity for combinations to get a nice warm up before the three qualifiers.

As we are the first qualifier we will try to keep the track as sympathetic and inviting as possible for these young horses” he went on to say. Competitions continue this week at Ravensdale Lodge with the Crowne Plaza Dundalk SJI registered indoor horse league on Thursday from 11am with classes from 80cm (M) to 1.30m (M). Friday evening it’s the turn of indoor horse & pony training from 5.30pm with the usual classes from X poles to 1.10m. Indoor arena eventing takes centre stage on Saturday when the Mackins Horse Feeds sponsored event will commence at 2pm with the 70cm class followed by the 85cm class at 3pm and the 1m class at 4pm. This event will provide the ideal opportunity to warm up in advance of the Balmoral Young Event Horse qualifier to be held at Ravensdale Lodge on April 15th. The curtain falls on weekly competitions with indoor dressage on Sunday from 2pm and all weekly classes can be found on the Ravensdale Lodge website or from the office, details below.
