£1,000 Pony Show Springs Outdoor Activities Into Action at Connell Hill

| March 26, 2014

connellhillYoung athletes arrived at Connell Hill to jump the £1,000 Pony Show and were greeted with an extensive range of tracks testing the riding skills of these future young stars that were built, by Course Designer Mr Nigel Jess, in the huge outdoor arena which was a picturesque display set in the heart of Antrim.  This show was a most energetic day oozing excitement as these young riders displayed their talent as they technically cut corners in an effort to take seconds of the clock.

Master Charles Heffron, a young 7 year old gentleman from Dungannon, took control of the 128 cm 80 cm class jumping the only double clear on ‘Miss Susie’ with Erin Talbot, from Stewartstown, winning the 128 cm U 10’s on ‘Smokegun’.  Running away with first place in the 129 cm 90 cm class was Cerys Howell on ‘Runaway Dolly’ who also took third on ‘Twyford Captain Morgan’ with Erin Talbot picking up second on ‘Smokegun’.  It was giggling and laughter as the 128 cm 1.0 m class got under way which saw Anabelle Heffron take the honours of first place on ‘Mr Giggles’.  Cerys Howell won the 138 cm 90 cm on Glenairley Miss Moneypenny and then went on to take third in the 138 cm 1.0 m class which was won by the one and only Olympic star Amy Roberts on ‘Glenvar Sparky’ with Eve Donnelly picking up a most deservedly second on ‘Kiltormer Dan’.  Amy and Glenvar Sparky went against the clock in the jump off for the 138 cm 1.10 m class and stormed into the lead with an unbeatable time to win first place with Emma McEntee taking second on Ballygawley Braveheart and third on Hubba Bubba.  Nigel then adjusted the course for the 148 cm classes where riders were asked to demonstrate their skill of controlled precision riding.  It was an all ladies with a full house of double clears for the 148 cm 90 cm class which were Shannon Clingan on ‘ Evros Empire’, Sophie Truesdale on ‘Beech Hall Star’ and Laura Millar on ‘Shandor’.  The nerve wrecking 148 cm 1.10 m class saw Emily Slaine, from Cookstown, demonstrate  a cool calm controlled round winning on ‘Lotto’s Dream’ with Nicola Eames picking up a very close second on ‘Euro Silver’.  As it came to the last class of the day, the 148 cm 1.20 m class, the spring outdoor air smelt of competitiveness as riders warmed up to jump in the well received outdoor arena, which saw Beth Doherty triumph with first placing on  ‘Springhill Cosmo’.  Connell Hill would like to thank Mr Nigel Jess, Course Designer, Mr David Greene, Judge, Arena Crew for their hard work during these shows and of course you, the competitors, without whom they would not have been the success they were.
