Veteran Takes 1.20m class at Connell Hill

| March 17, 2014

connellhillIt was a ‘Grand’ day all round for Connell Hills Grand Prix Horse Show on Saturday, with the sun shining everyone was in tip top form, the car parks filled to capacity as lorry’s and horse boxes arrived in their droves.  The presentation of riders entering the arena dressed in full show attire was a reflection of the high standard of competitive jumping at this venue.  Course designer, Mr Will Crean, designed courses, filling this large arena with colourful fences, which tested riding skills and natural ability of the horse to meet fences with technical turns which gave owners and spectators a most gratifying day.  The show commenced with double clears for Pauline McKeown on ‘Miss Darcy’, Brian Smyth on ‘Iroko Quarry Diamond’, Stephanie Doherty on ‘Beechmount Champ’ and Clare Spillane-Pattison on ‘Cor De La’ in the 80 cm class.  Taking the 90 cm class by storm with a double clear was Janet Currie on her own ‘Curolea Bobi’ and the sky is the limit for ‘Barnfield Indian Sky’ ridden by Kevin Mackey, owned by Cindy Cunningham, also amongst the double clears.  Competitors eagerly awaited as the course was set for the 1.0 m class which saw Lisa Allen on ‘Diamond Dollie’ fly against the clock to take first place.  Catherine Chambers on ‘Elysium Imp’ triumphantly took first place when they took to the arena for the 1.10 m class with Lisa Allen on ‘Keeford Elamo’ picking up a very deservedly second place.  A host of most talented riders took the challenge of the 1.20 m class giving spectators the opportunity of witnessing skilful precision riding as they encountered a technical track.  Demonstrating talent coupled with first class stable management was Suzanne Posnett as she took first place on her veteran ‘Karmijn’, her 22 year old mare who jumped like a youngster, third on ‘Queen of Clubs’ and fourth on ‘Carrickview Gin and Tonic with Edward Little picking up second place on, Sarah Agnews’ horse, ‘Galwaybay Hummer’.  The very nail biting 1.30 m class saw Suzanne then take the honours once again on, her mothers horses, Pamela Posnett, ‘Cocos Mademoiselle’ third on ‘Maxim Van Overis Z’ with John Higgins from Magherafelt taking second on ‘Doonaveeragh Camiro’.

Connell Hill would like to take this opportunity and thank Mr Will Crean, Course Designer and the arena crew, Judges Mrs Janet Currie and Miss Julie McLernon, Mr Gareth Stewart  Events Photography, spectators/owners and riders without whom the show would not have been the success it was.
