Huge Training Benefits at Connell Hill
The Horse Training Show on Thursday, the last date of this session, was a most relaxed day enjoyed by riders and horses with the added bonus of sun shine. Riders took advantage of this opportunity to get their horses out and train as many are finding it difficult owing to the bleak weather conditions. Training is the sole foundation for progression in any sport and none more so than the young or in-experienced horse building upon fitness and confidence or indeed a new horse and rider combination. The 80 cm class on Thursday saw partnerships grow when Christine Murray achieved this progress jumping double clear on ‘Holiday Candle Light’ as did Richard Hutchinson on ‘Laurelhill OMG’. Ryan Hunter, on his fabulous young horse ‘Fivona’, saw the advantages of these training shows jumping double clear in the 90 cm class with Fiona McRoberts on ‘Tess’, this combination then proceeded to jump another double clear in the 1.0 class.
The Friday night Training Show saw a chill in the air but this was barely noticed as the younger riders chomping at the bit eager to get going filled the arena with a ray of warmth with their enthusiasm. Kim Moore on ‘Little Bridie’ and Jessica Barron on ‘Chloe’ started this most fun relaxed night of jumping with clear rounds in the X-Poles class. It was then a ‘full house’ as Adam Sossick on ‘Loughview Sweet Delight’, Maeve Carlin on ‘Cinders’, Sally Mackey on ‘Jiggy’ and Jodie Creighton on ‘Sinbad’ all took red ribbons. The more technical course for the 60 cm class saw Sally Mackey on ‘Jiggy’ and Lindsey Cameron, building a partnership, on ‘Raz’ jump double clear rounds As the arena crew set the fences for the 70 cm class competitors warmed up preparing for this challenge which saw Sally Mackey on ‘Sugar’ and Victoria Nelson on ‘Willow’ jump double clear rounds. Alex Magill took this most advantageous opportunity of fitness training jumping double on ‘Antrim Mist’ in the 80 cm class and then double clear in the 90 cm class with Laura Gordon on ‘Jake’ and Jodie Creighton on ‘Oopy’.
