‘Indian Moondust’ Comes To Connell Hill

| February 24, 2014

connellhillAs we near the end of February and that little bit of extra day light we think great but this is not the case owing to such heavy rainfall therefore the Training Shows at Connell Hill have been such a huge relief to those seeking to not only get their young horse out but those getting fit and ready for the incoming season.  The first class facilities, outdoor and indoor, are excellent especially for the novice horse as they adventure into the world of show jumping.  The Horse Training Show on Thursday kicked off with the 80 cm class with Ryan Hunter on ‘Fivona’ jumping the first double clear of the day followed by Richard Hutchinson on ‘Laurelhill OMG’ and Edward Lyttle on ‘Untouchable Grace’.  Beverley Caves never felt the cold as she was kept busy warming up and jumping as she arrived with her entourage of horses jumping double clears in the 90 cm class on ‘Tigger’ and ‘Chablis’ and double clear on ‘Jack’ in the 1.0 m class.  A young man not letting the dust settle in the 1.0 m class was Kevin Mackey jumping double clear on ‘Indian Moondust’ with Mary Hegarty on ‘Iky’.  The arena crew set the course for the 1.10 m class and picking up double clears were Tori Dunn on ‘Pearl’ and Brogan McCrum on ‘Kato’ and to end the days jumping Luke Campbell on ‘Goodwin’ jumped double clear in the 1.30 m class.

The Friday night rain accompanied by a chill in the air did not deter competitors turning up with horses and ponies groomed ready to take the challenge of jumping a track designed to school and encourage both horses and riders.  Willow Dawson on ‘Spotty Josh’ was first into the arena for the X-Poles class followed by  Kim Moore on ‘Little Bride’ and Max McDonnell on ‘Cocky’.  Introducing her young horse to colourful poles and bright lights with a clear round in the 50 cm class was Pamela Moore on ‘Billy’.  Two future young athletes for the future who jumped clear in the 50 cm class and then jumped double clear in the 60 cm class were Maeve Carlin on ‘Cinders’ and Adam Sossick on ‘Loughview Sweet Delight’.  Taking the 70 cm class by storm with the only double clear was Elle Brownlow on ‘Spritzer’, who went on to jump double clear in the 80 cm class with Sally Mackie on ‘Barney’, John McKinney on ‘Clover’ and Cherie McHugh on ‘Morgan’.  To end a great night of jumping Seaneen McCoy on her super pony ‘Hazel Star’ jumped double clear in the 1.0 m class.

Training Shows will continue next Friday night at 6.30 pm, X-Poles – 1.10 m classes, where everyone will receive a warm welcome with café facilities for hot and cold drinks/snacks.
