A ‘RED’ ‘COMET’ AT CONNELL HILL

| February 19, 2014

connellhillIt feels like this undesirable weather is never going to go away fortunately Connell Hill gives riders the opportunity to train or school their horses at their Indoor Training Shows.  Not only do horses and ponies benefit from these shows but also the rider as they can up their fitness and improve riding skills; maybe you are getting back in the saddle following career / family commitments, had a break or other reason what better show to get you off the starter block than a Training Show.  One lady, an inspiration to all back in the saddle following a accident, is Fiona McRoberts as she competed at the Horse Training Show on Thursday like she had never been off.  Taking the first double clear of the day in the 80 cm class on Thursday was Julie McLeron on ‘Ronnie’ but not letting Julie have all the glory Edward Lyttle on ‘Untouchable Grace’ took the second double clear.  It was cheers all round in the 90 cm class when Chris Adger jumped a double clear on ‘Guinness’.  The arena crew then adjusted the fences for the 1.0 m class to see Shannon McKenzie on ‘Comet’ soar over the course to claim double clear with Mary Hegarty on ‘Iky’.  Shannon then went on to take the challenge of the 1.10 m class to skilfully demonstrate a controlled double clear on ‘Lily’ with Katy Connor on ‘Freddie’.  Then it was Friday night Training heavy rain nor Valentines kept these dedicated horse enthusiasts at home.  The night commenced with the X-Poles class which saw Maeve Carlin on ‘Cinderella’ jump clear followed by the 50 cm class, this class saw, Stephen Carlin ‘doing it my way’, on ‘Frank Sinatra’ jump clear with daughter Maeve, kicking off the slippers and saying well watch me go, with a clear on ‘Cinderella’.  The 60 cm class got going with a super speedy double clear by Melissa McClenaghan on ‘Dante’ followed by Naomi McCavana on ‘Molly’ going on to claim double clear in the 70 cm class.  The 80 cm class saw, one to watch out for in the future, Melissa McClenaghan, on her new pony, ‘Red’, demonstrate the understanding of partnership between horse and rider, claiming a red rosette.  Seaneen McCoy on ‘Hazel Star’ took the challenge of the 1.0 m class to claim ‘my training pays off’ with a double clear.

Training Shows will continue next Friday night at 6.30 pm, X-Poles – 1.10 m classes, where everyone will receive a warm welcome with café facilities for hot and cold drinks/snacks.
