Simply Tip Top Star at Connell Hill’s Training Show

| February 11, 2014

connellhillThe unfavourable weather is not ideal for getting your horse out in preparation for the year ahead, and as training is the bases of how well your horse will perform at a show, the old saying is ‘no mouth no horse’, ‘no foot no horse’; well the same applies to how well your horse will jump or perform at a show if no ground work is done in preparation, the result will be less. Therefore at this stage of the calendar ‘jump’ at the opportunity to avail of ‘ground work’ to achieve your optimum performance should it be brushing up on skills, paces etc or introducing/bringing on the young horse. The Horse Training Show saw Chris Adger having a most successful day jumping double clears in the 80 cm class on both horses ‘Palkia’ and ‘Guinness’ and then in the 90 cm class double clear on ‘Guinness’. The 1.0 m class saw Eddie Lyttle jump a superb double clear on ‘Houdini’.

The Friday night Training Show was a most fun filled night of huge competition as the Dengie Qualifiers show was incorporated. The night commenced with the X-Poles class with Holly Logan on ‘Indie’, Max McDonnell on ‘Mountain Game Cock’ and Madeline Alexander on ‘Duchess’, who is a novice, all jumping clear. With her previous success Madeline Alexander on ‘Duchess’ then went on to jump clear in the 50 cm class with Tori Jewess on ‘Smurf’ and Elle McDonnell on ‘Sunny’. The 60 cm class saw Dee Harris on her Xmas Gift ‘Archie’ jump a stylish double clear, with Charlie Jewess on ‘Joey’ jump the only double clear in the 70 cm class. The 12 and Under class followed on directly with Kerry Magill on ‘Flapjack Flyer’ qualifying. The 80 cm class had huge competition with Hannah Thompson on ‘Tia’ and Morgan Skillen on ‘Mayo’ amongst the double clears, then with adjustments made to the course the Dengie Qualifier competitiors entered the arena. Keeping dry in the viewing gallery spectators urged these young athletes over the fences which saw, to a stadium filled with cheering and applauding, Seaneen McCoy on ‘Hazel Star’, Elle Humphries on ‘Aland Tip Top’ and Fiona Grogan on ‘Simply Abigail’ qualify. The 90 cm class saw Lucy Hanna on ‘Rebel’ jump a superb double clear with a very prospective future Elle Humphries on ‘Prospect Eddie’ jump double clear in the 1.0 m class and then springing into the 1.10 m class with a double clear to end the night was Lucy Hanna on ‘Spring Rumba’.
