Route Hunt Meet at Ballyhome
Despite the chilly 3 degrees temperature and the threat of snow on Saturday 23rd February, 17 members of The Route hunt and 2 visitors meet at Ballyhome for another day of hunting. There was no hunt the previous Saturday because of the wet ground conditions and this meant that the Route Hunt ladies had plenty of time to prepare themselves for the Route Hunt annual charity ball held at the Lodge Hotel in Coleraine.
A drinks reception, a five course banquet meal, a raffle with numerous, excellent prizes and music by Memory Lane meant that a great night was had by all hunt members and the host of friends and family who had joined them. By 12.30pm all had gathered and the hunt set off along the Ballyhome Road. There was a short hack along a laneway before the first jump from the laneway up into some rough ground. Here there was a small stone wall which was a good warm up jump. The hunt then had a climb to a mount with some interesting stones around it. After this there was a steep decent to the next jump which was a purpose built fence in the hedge between 2 fields. After this there were several hedges, one with a big drop on the other side and one with a ditch on the other side which some decided to give a miss. There was then two five bars gates, several stone walls, a small river crossing and a few more hedges before a hack back along the Ballyhome Road. Once again all had enjoyed a great day out with lots of banter and because of one of the tricky drop fences Simon Carson of Jazz Horses had to pay up £5 for his fall. The hunt organisers hope to see a good turnout for the next hunt on Saturday 2nd March at 12 noon.
