SJI Horse League Gets Underway at Connell Hill
Saturday saw the commencement of the SJI Horse League at Connell Hill which despite the severe wintery weather conditions competitors arrived eager to jump and start their accumulation of points during 2014. Riders and horses encountered courses which asked for control coupled with precision riding. The 90 cm class demonstrated smooth riding with double clears for Kathryn Watt on ‘Derg Bonnie Rose’, Kevin Mackey, on Nicola Tang’s’, ‘Neat Moonshadow’ and Noel McKee on ‘Keeford Sundance’. Although the weather was not in everyone’s favour it was heart warming for owners and riders to see ability and style unfurl as horses entered the arena to jump. Amongst the double clears in the 1.0 m class was Lucy Hamilton on ‘Mount Cashel Queen’ with Alistair Barr on ‘Colt Forty Five’ and Olivia McCormack on ‘Penelope Cruz’ jump double clear as they cruised over the 1.10 m class. Achieving optimum performance from her horses was Zoe Woods on ‘Without Permission’ and ‘Kilronan Chin’ with double clear rounds in the 1.20 class and ‘Kilronan Chin’ going on to claim double clear in the 1.30 m class.
*Horse Training Show* Thursdays 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th February at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.20 m. This show is ideal for schooling, training or that little bit of extra fitness before jumping registered on Saturdays.
SJI Horse League continues on Saturday 8th February at 10.00 am, classes 80 cm – 1.30 m. League dates are 8th, 15th and 20th February, 1st, 8th, 22nd and 29th March, Sunday 13th, Saturday 19th and final on 26th April. Competitors must jump at five league dates to qualify for final.
Training Shows will continue next Friday night at 6.30 pm, X-Poles – 1.10 m classes, where everyone will receive a warm welcome with café facilities for hot and cold drinks/snacks.
