Cavan’s Spring Horse Sales
The Cavan 2013 sales year kicks off on Monday 4th March with Registered Connemara, Registered Irish Draught and Young Stock Sport Horse Sales and International Performance Sale fills the following two days on Tuesday 5th & Wednesday 6th March. With nearly 400 entries catalogued for these sales it will undoubtedly have something of interest for everyone.
Monday March 4th will be a busy day starting off with the Registered Connemara sale at 10am which will include all ages of the breed from yearlings to riding and jumping ponies. This will be followed by the National Registered Irish Draught Sale at 12.30pm again with all ages of the breed. The last sale of the day will be the Young Stock Sport Horse Sale which begins at 2.30pm and includes yearlings, 2yo’s and broodmares and includes a 2 Year Old, Cruising colt and also includes progeny of Hold Up Premier, Pacino, Arkan, Ard VDL Douglas, etc. With 100 entries catalogued over the day it promises an excellent selection to choose from for the savvy buyer. With the extremely wet winter a distant memory and the weather starting to improve it is surely a bonus time of year for purchasers to acquire young stock.
All entries catalogued for these sales will be on show before going into the sales ring. Veterinary certificates if applicable and vendor warranties submitted with each animal offered for sale will be available for viewing in the secretary’s office.
The International Performance Sale catalogue for the sale on Tuesday 5th & Wednesday 6th is chock-full of horses and ponies 3 years old and upwards which are suitable for show jumping, eventing, hunting, dressage, pleasure riding, etc. With the season getting under way now is the time to pick up a new horse or pony to produce or to bring on further.
The full breakdown of all the lots on offer for sale is as follows;
- 8 x 128cm ponies
- 8 x 138cm ponies
- 65 x 148cm ponies
Among the horses offered for sale, the progeny of many famous sires are catalogued including Cruisings Mickey Finn, Touchdown, Chacoa, VDL Arkansas, Loughahoe Guy, Chacoato name but a few. The breakdown of horses by age is as follows;
40 x six year olds
70 x five year olds
50 x 4 year olds
as well as 45 horses over six years of age.
All entries catalogued for this Performance sale will be performing before going into the sales ring – either being ridden or lunged over a set of poles and all are proven or potential showjumpers, eventers, hunting, dressage or pleasure riding animals. Veterinary certificates and vendor warranties are submitted with each horse and pony offered for sale. This ensures that all animals are fit for sale and as an additional reassurance, re-vetting facilities are on site.
