Members, families and friends of East Down Branch of the Pony Club recently held their annual prize giving with thanks to The Mill at Ballydugan.

 District Commissioner, Alison Bissenden welcomed Donna Quail to join her as Joint DC. Having spent many years as secretary for East Down, Donna brings with her a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Congratulations were extended to competitors who qualified for the various Championships in England during the summer. The Tetrathlon Team of Paddy Erskine, Andrew Turley and Ewan Findlay. The Novice Showjumpers. Tara Findlay, Chloe Rooney, Molly Evans, Sophie Truesdale and Tilly Horder. Cathy Campbell (for Intermediate Eventing) and Toni Quail at the Royal Windsor Horse Show (games). Each were presented with an award to recognise this achievement. Andrew Turley and Ellen Erskine were also selected for Tetrathlon at Windsor. Ellen received the Dewdney Shield for outstanding achievement in Tetrathlon.

Awards were also presented to members who represented East Down with great success at various competitions during the year. Alex Cleland was placed at the Junior Dengie Show jumping. Ronan McSorley gained 2nd place in the Jumps Ahead final, Jacob Morrow for his success at Endurance and the members of the Triathlon and DressageTeams.

East Down Branch are very pleased at the increasing number of members who are putting themselves forward to compete at the various pony club competitions. The level of commitment shown by members and parents throughout 2013 is a great credit to the Branch. Many of the younger members also made long trips to Area competitions and the success they achieved demonstrates that East Down has a great future. Those Junior competitors were awarded medals by the Branch.

Thanks are extended to Robert and Fran Rowlatt-McCormick for hosting the Junior Christmas Party and to Santa for coming along. Also to Ros Murphy for organising the last Junior event of 2013, a forest ride in Finnebrogue Estate. The Senior members finished the year with a film and pizza night at Richard and Anne Truesdale’s
