Annual Dinner Dance for Castle Leslie Riding Club
Castle Leslie Riding Club recently held their annual Dinner Dance in the Westenra Arms Hotel in Monaghan. The theme for the evening was the 1950’s and 60’s and all club members made a fabulous effort with their costumes!
The dinner marks the occasion when the club’s annual prizes are awarded and this year was no exception. Meredith Jackson, the club chairman, did the honours and presented the prizes, but had the tables turned when he himself was awarded the ‘Show jumping’ prize.
Orla Sheehan won the ‘Dressage’ trophy, for consistently good performances throughout the year. Sharon McKeever took the ‘Eventing’ prize and David Breakey’s, ‘What’s it all about Alfie’ won ‘Horse of the Year’; especially poignant as Alfie had been exceptionally ill, but has thankfully recovered. Shane McKeever was delighted to be voted ‘Club Person of the Year’ on the night. The team of the year, Orla Sheehan, Meredith Jackson, Eva McKenna, and Louise Flynn won their prize for their achievement at the AIRC Riding Club Annual Festival at Stradbally.
The club has had a very successful and active year, not just in the sporting field but also socially, several equestrian themed day trips and indeed weekends were taken to Tattersalls, Kells, Tyrella, Dunany and Flowerhill in Galway among others. Membership has increased year on year but we are always glad to welcome new enthusiasts; information can be found on the club website. We would like to thank the club committee for all their hard work, not just on this night but throughout the year; amateur organisations like ours would not exist were it not for volunteers who give their time and effort.z
