Connell Hill Jumps Into 2014

| January 6, 2014

Friday night saw the first show of 2014 at Connell Hill as competitors arrived, oblivious to the stormy weather conditions, eager to jump at these first class indoor facilities.  Training is such a vital role in any sport and none so much more than show jumping, the horse and the rider, as a team, gain confidence, fitness, style and skills as they further their career in this most elite sport.  These shows are open to all so why not come along and join in.

Young riders proving training pays as skills improve was Hugo O’Neill on ‘Sugar’, Melissa McClenaghan on ‘Dante’ and Alex Byrne on ‘Willow’ who all jumped double clears in the 60 cm class.  A new combination jumping double clear in the 70 cm class was Donna Dawson on ‘Melody’ with Georgia Kirkwood on ‘ Debonair’, Alex Byrne on ‘Willow’, Sally Mackie on ‘Barney’ and Hugo O’Neill on ‘Sugar’.  Picking up red rosettes in the 80 cm class for double clears were Georgia Kirkwood on ‘Debonair’, Tara Murphy on ‘Clover’ and Elle-Rose Cassidy on ‘Chesty’.  Its’ all about taking pride in achievements and when it came to the 90 cm class that was the case as Tara Murphy on ‘Clover’, Seaneen McCoy on ‘Hazel Star’ and Jill Gourley on ‘Pride’ all jumped double clear rounds.  To end a most enjoyable nights jumping Yvonne McClenaghan jumped double clear in the 1.0 m class on ‘Annie’.

Training Shows will continue next Friday night at 6.30 pm, X-Poles – 1.10 m classes, where everyone will receive a warm welcome with café facilities for hot and cold drinks/snacks.

Connell Hill will host an Unregistered Horse Show on Saturday 11th and 18th January 2014 at 10.30 am, classes 80 cm – 1.20 m.  This is the ideal show to introduce or bring on the young horse as riders will have the opportunity to warm up in the new spacious outdoor arena before jumping a course of fences in this first class indoor arena.  The track, designed by Mr Will Crean, will encourage these less experienced horses giving them confidence as they embrace the world of show jumping.  This show is open to all unregistered horses and riders in full show attire.
