Portmore League Well Supported
The first competition of 2014 was well attended at Portmore Equestrian Centre, the blustery conditions outside encouraged competitors to make the most of the superb arenas and indoor spectator viewing gallery available all year around. The course was designed by Mickey McCann who built it with young horses in mind offering an encouraging and flowing theme for all competitors. It was enjoyable to see a number of young horses making their debut onto the competition scene in this relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Equestrian Results were on hand to add any new competitors to the website and document their results, meanwhile Lorraine kindly agreed to judge for the day working efficiently to ensure the smooth running of the competition.
Lucy Toombs produced the first clear of the day on her pony May, encouraged under the careful supervision of Leah Knight who enjoyed watching her pupil make light work of the course. Michael Irwin and Oscar also enjoyed a double clear, while Sheila Kennedy introduced another young promising horse to the competition atmosphere.
Emma Lee Turley and her super pony Bon Ame set the scene in the 80cm class with a very well ridden double clear.
Knockagh View competitors were out in force once again with a lorry full of well turned out horses and ponies. Ruth Wilsons stylish double clear in the 90cm class on her grey mare Maisie finished their day on a high note.
The 90cm class was the most competitive of the day with a large number of horses and ponies producing flawless clears. Lucy Elliott and her faithful grey TT once again completed a foot perfect double clear, while Jenny McIlrath and Ellie May stepped up a class to compete for the first time at this height. The pair were more than ready as they jumped confidently around the course.
Ellie Rose Cassidy and her super jumping pony Chesty enjoyed another double clear and look to be a competitive combination for the timed final.
Roslyn Brown and her chestnut Spruce showed their experience in the 1m class producing a confident double clear while keen amateur rider Laura King on her horse Max also enjoyed a double clear to finish her Christmas break before heading back to university. Laura was also the winner of the prize draw, taking home a lovely embroidered saddlecloth sponsored by Equestrian Results.co.uk
Sam Rooney completed a double clear on Bluestone Limerick after only getting acquainted with his ride on the morning of the competition, they then went on to jump competitively in the 1.10m class.
Ingrid Scott and her grey mare Tomboy enjoyed a fabulous finish to the competition with a superbly ridden double clear.
