Charlie Takes It All In His Stride At Connell Hill
Connell Hills’ excellent facilities are proving to be so beneficial to not only the young horse but also as fitness aids as more horses and riders are taking advantage of this venue each week. This is the ideal opportunity to introduce your horse to show jumping in a competitive yet friendly and welcoming environment.
Thursday nights training show got off to an excellent start and set the pace for the evening ahead when ‘Charlie’, a novice horse who literally just began his career as this was his first ever show, jumped double clear ridden by Andrew Mckinney in the 70 cm class. Charlie again ridden by Andrew McKinney clearly enjoying his experience went on to jump double clears in the 80 and 90 cm class. The 90 cm class saw yet another young horse Paris being taken through its paces by Suzanne Posnett going double clear with John McKinney on Babs and Molly pick up red rosettes as did Sarah Agnew on Hummer and Liro. Dawn McKeown on Tabby and Alex Magill on Antrim Mist saw both go double clear in the 1.10 m with Suzanne Posnett, true to form, on Emily and Polly both jumping double clear to end the evening in the 1.20 m class. Thanks to Will Crean who once again built an inviting course for both horse and rider, this show continues next week at 6.30 pm, classes 70 cm – 1.20 m where everyone is welcome.
The younger athletes not to be put out by the more mature on Thursday night came out in style at Friday nights training show also taking advantage of these facilities for schooling, training and improving riding skills. The 50 cm class saw Alex McMaster on Miles picking up two red rosettes as did Emma McManus on Misty, Megan Dunseath on Panache, Chloe Connon on Charlie and Sammy Cameron on Brownie. The double clears in the 60 cm class were Jodie Creighton on Duncan, Beth Boone on Polly, Sammy Cameron on Brownie and Shane O’Grady on his young horse Merlin. Emma McKay on her new horse Mr Crilly jumped double clear as did Shane O’Grady on Merlin and Morgan Skillen on Mayo in the 70 cm class. Setting the pace in the 80 cm class with a double clear was Richard Hutchinson on Laurelhill OMG with Jodie Creighton on Maninard Sir Ganty riding a double clear in style. Also picking up the red ribbons were Leah McLeister on Ollie, Hannah Winters on Harvey and Nicole Cameron on Tanner. Leah McLeister on Ollie went on to ride a second double clear in the 90 cm and Rachael Black on Schuey had double clears in the 90 cm and 1.0 m class.
The SJI Spring Horse League has commenced and will continue this Saturday with 80 cm – 1.30 m classes starting at 10.00 am.
