Headgear Rule Change For Eventing Ireland

| February 8, 2013

Note to competitors from Eventing Ireland is shown below…

Will riders please note the change in rule for Headgear, as follows:

RULE 53 Headgear

Protective headgear is mandatory at all times.

Note: Protective Headgear is defined as “Appropriate Helmet or Headgear that is in compliance with the applicable international testing standards. It must be properly fastened with a three point retention harness at all times when mounted”.

Exception

Top hats and uniform hats are permitted as an exception to this rule only for dressage in Intermediate (2 Star) and Advanced (3 Star) classes. Athletes must be 18 years and older, riding Horses seven (7) years and older and can only be used at the actual Competition and the warming-up directly prior to the Competition (with no break before the Competition), which includes riding between the stable and the warm-up area.

If a hat comes off during a dressage test, it must be replaced immediately; the Competitor may dismount or the hat may be handed to them. The test will be restarted at the beginning of the movement during which it came off. There will be no penalty for error of course but if the hat is not replaced the Competitor will be eliminated.

PONY RIDERS: When mounted protective head gear secured by a three point retention harness is compulsory.

Protective headwear, as listed below, must be worn by Competitors at all times when mounted in all classes – exception allowed for Dressage as above.

When jumping, including warming up, ALL Competitors must wear ‘Protective headwear’ ie. a hat which meets one of the following standards.
