Equestrian Interschools Ireland at Kernan Equestrian Centre

The latest round of the Equestrian Interschools Ireland League was held on Saturday 26^th October  and hosted by Kernan Equestrian Centre, Crossmaglen Co. Armagh.  James Kernan the proprietor built the courses for both the Novice and Open team and individual events.

Five teams in all competed in the day’s events. The schools taking part were:NewbridgeCollege, Kildare and Our Ladys, Castleblaney in the Novice Team event . Newbridge College, Monaghan Collegiate (Red) and Monaghan Collegiate (Black) competed in the Open Team Event.

The day kicked off with the Novice Team event which was won by NewbridgeCollege (Silver). The team consisted of Clodagh Finlay on Molly Malone; Hannah Rasmussen on Prancing Paudie and Ciara Harris on Ardrail Boy.

The winner of the Novice Individual was Clodagh Finlay on Molly Malone, NewbridgeCollege; 2^nd Etan McCann on The Offalys Dream, Our Lady’s Castleblaney;  3^rd Sorcha McCague on Major Ben, Our Lady’s Castleblaney and 4^th Ciara Harris on Dix Grove Jewel, NewbridgeCollege.

In the Open Team competition, two teams qualified for the jump off against the clock.  First in for Monaghan Collegiate (Black) were Natalie Kinghan and Coco jumping clear in 39.11 secs, followed by her sister Lucinda on Cornview Lady who with a fence down left them in 2^nd place.

Next in also for Monaghan Collegiate (Red) was Gemma Treanor om Sloras Smokey Boy who finished on a nice clear round in a time of 38.06secs. Next in Alvin McElwaine on Movie produced a lovely clear round in a fast 34.66 secs ensuring them the 1^st prize in the Open Team Event. The other member of the winning team was Averil Mackeral on Petes Cody. The Monaghan Collegiate team were delighted with their Kernan Equestrian rugs and rosettes.

The Open Individual competition was run as a jump off class.. Of the twelve starters in the first round eight combos went through to the jump off. The high standard of jumping produced four further clear rounds with Karen Casey on Primadonna Girl representing Newbridge Girl emerging the winner in a time of 32.69secs.. Second was Victoria McElwaine  on Pandora D, Monaghan Collegiate (34.65secs) and Natalie Kinghan on Coco taking 3^rd place again for Monaghan Collegiate in 34.67 secs.

Prizes on the day were sponsored by Kernan Equestrian Centre including a Kernan Equestrian Rug to the winning teams..

1^st Monahan Collegiate Red Team: Sloras Smokey Boy (Gemma Treanor), Petes Cody (Avril Mackeral) and Movie (Alvin McElwaine)

2^nd Monaghan Collegiate Black Team: Coco (Natalie Kingham), Pandora D (Victoria McElwaine) and Cornview Lady (Lucinda Kingham)

3^rd Newbridge College White Team: Kippure Steepleview Jack (Caoimhe Sweeney), My Rockstan Two (Carren Casey), Mullabaloo (Sarah Behan) and Grey Chance (Alyanna Murphy);

Open Individual- 1, Newbridge College Premadonna Girl (Carren Caseey); 2, Monaghan Collegiate Pandora D (Victoria McElwaine); 3, Monaghan Collegiate Coco (Natalie Kingham) 4, Dundalk Grammar Dutch Sprout (Ciara Corynan); 5, Monaghan Collegiate Cornview Lady (Lucinda Kingham); 6, Miss G Tracey (Addie McCaughey)
