The ‘Alaska’ Chill Wins at Connell Hill
The welcoming friendly atmosphere at Connell Hill saw a large number of competitors turn out in style to jump at the sixth leg of this Autumn SJI League. The bright day added to the enthusiasm of warming up in the outdoor arena in preparation to jump in the first class indoor facilities with a track requesting control and precision forward thinking by riders.
Caroline Taylor on ‘Taylors Girl’ commenced the day with double clears in the 80 and 90 cm classes. The 1.0 m class saw all guns blazing as competitors entered the arena going for double clears, and entertaining the show creating a ‘wild west’ atmosphere Alistair Barr on ‘Colt Forty Five’ filled the stadium with cheering and applauding from spectators. With the clocks going back this was not the case for the 1.10 m class when they were set to go with nail biting points of a second awarding first place to Aoife McGlynn on ‘Toms Dice’ and Fiona Thompson on ‘My Golden Wonder’ second place.
The 1.20 m class started and the rain appeared bringing with it a baltic chill but this did not phase Catherine Drain freezing out the opposition winning in a super fast time on ‘Alaska-M’. Winning at their debut 1.30 m class was Gareth Saunderson on ‘Concerto Thornesele Z’ with Kevin Mackey on ‘Cruising Lux’ picking up a very deservedly second.
Autumn SJI Horse League continues on 2nd, 9th, 16th 23rd and Final on 30th November at 10.00 am, 80 cm – 1.30 m classes.
Autumn SJI Pony League 24th November, 1st December and Final 21st December at 10.00 am all usual classes.
Training Show for Horses and Ponies continue on Friday nights, at 6.30 pm, 50 cm – 1.10 m classes.
£1,000 Indoor Derby League Final on Sunday 3rd November at 10.00 am, classes 60 cm – 1.0 m. £50 – £500 + rugs to the winners of each class with prizes in kind up to 6th placings. Competitors must have competed at 1 league date to be eligible for prizes in final.
3 & 4 Year Old Pony Loose Jumping on Tuesdays 5th, 12th and 19th November at 7.00 pm
Connell Hills’ aim is to suit and accommodate everyone so keep and eye out for a host of more shows including Half Bred Loose Jumping and Working Hunter Shows here a warm welcome will be extended to everyone as they come along whether they are competing/spectating or just socialising with a hot snack, tea/coffee/soft drink from the cafe.
