Week ending 8th September 2013, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

You have to go back to 1999 to see Bobbyjo’s name on the Aintree Grand National trophy. The jockey who rode him to victory over the famous Aintree fences that day was one of Irelands top national hunt jockey’s, Paul Carberry. Give the man a horse and some fences and he will take on to jump them, be they national hunt hurdle or chase fences, hunting ditches, walls or banks or in this instance a well designed course of show jumps. Carberry took the opportunity to jump at Ravensdale Lodge in the Tailored Equestrian sponsored SJI registered horse league last Wednesday jumping in the 1.10m & 1.20m classes on his own Fanadwest Atlantic. There has been a very strong Grand National theme running at Ravensdale Lodge over the past couple of years with both Paul Carberry and fellow national hunt jockey Robert Power who also won the Aintree national in 2007 on board Silver Birch competing with great success over coloured poles. Power has won a class in the main arena at the biggest show of the year at Ravensdale Lodge, the National Grand Prix show in May over the past two years and mixes the day job with show jumping to great effect. Another Grand National winner, Notre Pere who was the first Irish trained horse to win the Welsh National as Chepstow also competes at Ravensdale Lodge on a regular basis, this time in the more sedate discipline of dressage for her stable groom and new owner Paula Keene.

Show jumping takes centre stage this week at Ravensdale Lodge with the last big show of the year taking place this weekend.
