Rachel In Winning Form at Strule Valley

STRULE VALLEY RIDING CLUB in Omagh, Co Tyrone held a dressage competition recently at the RDA, Arvalee, Omagh by kind permission of Omagh Riding for the Disabled Association.

Riders & their horses travelled from different parts of the country to compete – Strabane, Cookstown, Trillick, Enniskillen, Eglinton, Sion Mills & Omagh.  Special thanks to judge Myra Watters, scribe Heather Beattie, Noel Regan & Robert Huey for setting up the dressage arena, Pearl Donnell refreshments & entries, Jane Huey & Lucinda Blakiston-Houston for adding up the scores & Gillian Hynes call up & to anyone else who helped in any way.  Thanks to Gordon Craig from Raphoe, Co Donegal & his mother Elizabeth- CRAIG HAYLAGE for sponsoring a bale of this lovely haylage to the winner in each class.

Congratulations to the winners of each class – young Adam McKinney with his lovely pony Minstral riding their 1st dressage test in Class 1 The Pony Club D Level 1 Test. Ann Regan was in winning form winning Class 2 Intro B 2009 with her young small hunter Chalcedony Blue Too & also taking the red rosettes in Class 5 Novice 24 2010 & Class 6 Novice 26 2006 with her brilliant heavyweight cob Barnstormer.  Another rider in form was Rachel McKimmon & her very nice young horse Monroe winning both Class 3 Prelim 12 2005 & Class 4 Prelim 13 2006.  Well done to everyone else who competed.

Members re-commence their weekly lessons now with flatwork training with Phillippa McKee at the RDA, then during the month of February William Anderson will take members for polework, gridwork & showjumping training.

The next competition for StruleValley will be an Arena Eventing Competition on Sunday 17^th February commencing at 1.30 pm in Ecclesville, Fintona.  This will consist of 8 showjumping fences followed by 8 working hunter/cross country type fences & is open to everyone.  Classes will start at 70cm, followed by 80cm, 90cm, 1 metre & 1 metre 10.

Another date for your diary is the annual combined training competition in March which consists of both dressage & showjumping & also includes dressage only for those who don’t wish to jump!
