Final Amateurs Qualify for RDS at Ravensdale Lodge

| June 25, 2013

Week ending 16th & 23rd June 2013, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

“Amateurs to the fore at Ravensdale Lodge”.
A week after the first of two one day events for Eventing Ireland, the main grass arena at Ravensdale Lodge had more traffic on Saturday 22nd June, this time it was the RDS amateur qualifier. It is testament to the superb drainage on these grass arenas that they were fit to jump with the monsoon like showers that fell throughout the day and many sand arenas would not have coped with the water that fell however a super days jumping was had by all despite the heavy showers. Between the showers, the sun split the skies making it too hot for anyone wearing a jacket, a typical Irish summer and for those who qualified for Dublin in August from Ravensdale it will be the sunshine and good surfaces that will be remembered.

It was a show to remember for the Carroll family from Lusk in north County Dublin as businessman Paul won the class while his wife Louise came home sixth to also qualify from Ravensdale. Clear over the three rounds riding the Carroll Produce owned Caballero. Paul had the comfort of knowing he was already qualified for Dublin before he went into the final jump off so he could afford to push the boundaries a bit further regarding making some tight turns and the pair come in a blistering time of 35.63 seconds. RDS specialist Martin Wilson riding Hermes Diamond was closest to Carroll’s time but a fence on the ground in the slightly slower time of 36.99 seconds proved costly however it was good enough for the Ballyclare man to take the last qualifying spot to ensure his representation for the fourteenth consecutive year at the Dublin amateur showpiece, some achievement. Leaving all the poles up and finishing in a time of 37.89, Kerrie Anderson from the garden county of Wicklow was second in the class riding her own Farrig’s Master Murphy while another AA rider, Stephanie Rankin riding Stephanie Anderson’s Tease Me Tiger slotted into third place on 41.64 seconds. The first of the A riders to qualify was another Wicklow woman, this time Audrey Cullen riding her own Grayson clear in the time of 42.31 seconds to finish fourth. The next three qualifiers were all A riders with Joe Harris from Warringstown in Co. Armagh slotting into fifth with his own Coppendale Concorde, Louise Carroll riding Brian Horgan’s Shalamar Montana was sixth and event rider, Nicole Barr from Newtownards in Co. Down coming home in seventh place riding her own Florida Daydream. Paul Carroll’s win was good news for Joseph Moore from Naas, Co Kildare who finished ninth in the class. Normally an unlucky ninth as it is outside the top eight qualifying spots this time it was lucky as Carroll’s qualification from a previous qualifier meant that Moore and Catherine Doyle’s Bill Vision would line up in Dublin with an equal chance in the first week of August.

League shows continue at Ravensdale Lodge this week with SJI registered show jumping for horses and ponies on Wednesday with horses from 11am and ponies from 5.30pm with the usual classes. The SJI course remains up on Thursday and Friday for anyone who wishes to school while Friday evening sees the weekly horse & pony training league continue from 5.30pm with classes from X poles to 1.20m. Arena eventing returns after a two week break on Saturday and the first of the four classes kicks off at 12pm with the 60cm class which is followed by the 70cm, 85cm & 1m classes.
