Star Spangled Mini Grand Prix Pony Show at Connell Hill
The Mini Grand Prix Pony Show at Connell Hill saw a huge number of competitors turn out to jump a super grand prix course of fences. These courses, designed by Mr Will Crean, provided the opportunity of testing the nerve and ability of these, without doubt, stars of the future filling the stadium with a buzz of excitement.
As the car parks filled the packed viewing gallery cheered on these dedicated young show jumpers who very swiftly manoeuvred their mounts over the course picking up points for speeding. Clapping and cheering filled the arena as first place went to Ellie-Rose Cassidy on ‘Tuity Fuity’ when they won the 128cm U 10’s.
The honour of first place in the 128 cm 90 cm class was Amy Roberts on ‘Billy Two Rivers’. With competition growing the 128 cm 1.0 m class started and as competitors sped their way over the course no-one could catch Emma McEntee on ‘Star Spangled Banner’ as they ran away with first place.
It was an honourable day for Fionn Clarke in the 138 cm 1.10 m class as Fionn won first place on ‘Silver n Blue’ and second place on ‘Mulvin Rollover’. It was a legend of a day for Patrick Boyle as he was the only competitor to have double clear rounds in the 148 cm 1.0 m class on ‘What A Legend’ and ‘Casino Royale’.
As the day wore on the buzz, excitement and adrenalin had smitten everyone, then the 148 cm 1.10 m class started but with only points of a second in it first place was won by Fergus Reid on ‘Springhill Cosmo’ and Victoria Brown on ‘Cullagh Lass’ picking up second. Pulling out all the stops for the last class of the day, was Jonathan Smyth on ‘Tirconaill Bluebell’ who won the 148 cm 1.20 cm class with Jessica Johnston on ‘Thorn’ hot on his heals taking second.
