Kernan Equestrian Centre, Ulster Region Grand Prix, Sunday 16^th June 2013

A  leg of the Ulster Grand Prix Horse Show was held at The Kernan Equestrian Centre on Sunday June 16^th.. This  was extremely well supported and the weather held up throughout the day’s competition. All classes were run as two phase except the Grand Prix .

 

The show kicked off with the 90cm class.  Eight competitors divided the prizes in this class.

The Ulster Region 1m League  class  again produced a high standard of jumping with eleven combinations jumping double clears.

 

The 1.10m class which was also part of the Ulster Region 1.10m League attracted a field of 46 competitors.  April McCrea, a frequent winner at Kernans and fourth last to go proved a worthy winner taking 1^st prize on  Baby Blossom in a  time of 32.27secs. 2^nd place went to Lisa Patterson on Quick Smart in 33.99secs and third to Emmet McCourt on his mother’s Trebor Tell Me More in a time of 34.31secs. Joanna Curran finished up 4^th on Kilbricken  in a time of 34.40 secs..

 

The 1.20m class was also well supported.  The high standard of jumping produced 20 double clears.  Again fourth last to go, Aoife Dooley on Judy Murphy’s Javas Geogie B emerged victorious with a stunning double clear in a fast time 25.96 secs.

Marcus Buser on his own Jades Das Baumes  completed a nice double clear in 28.40 secs to take 2^nd place and again was in the ribbons with Beverley Thompson riding his Vigo .G scooping 3rd place in 29.32secs. April McCrea was in the ribbons again on Carmenflag  fininsh up 4^th in a time of 29.49secs.

The main competition of the day, the  £1,000 Ulster Grand Prix League 1.30m (s) class sponsored by Foran Equine Poducts proved to be a very exciting competition with 37 horses and riders taking part.  The strong and challenging course built by Alistair Megahey   produced 7 clear rounds. The first of these to provide a double clear was Dermot Lennon on Corbagh Luxor, setting the pace in a time of 48.83 secs.

Dermot managed to hold on to his lead until the last of the seven to jump again Nathan Primrose riding Chackmaro Z picked up the challenge and fairly scorched round to secure the 1^st place and Ulster Grand Prix rug knocking 0.28secs off the former world champion’s time. Suzanne Posnett’s time of 51.25 secs  on David Prentice’s Couleur Fama Sr z assured her of the 3^rd placing.  Charlene Clingan’s double clear round on Lamiro Blue (58.55secs) gave her 4^th place.  5^th went to Aoife Dooley on Judy Murphy’s Javas Sophie and 6^th to Sophie Dalm on Vaillant S.
