Robert Splaine said tonight: “We know we have a very tough task in Rotterdam, as it’s one of our four points-scoring competitions in the Furusiyya series. We don’t in any manner underestimate the opposition here, and if you go through the list of serious riders and fantastic horses we’re up against you realise this is top competition at the very highest level, and that this weekend is going to be huge.

“We have four experienced riders on our team with two of those riding experienced animals, and two riding less experienced horses at this level.

“We did reasonably well in La Baule at the start of the year and we’re going to give it a good shot here in Rotterdam and hope we come out on the right side.”

The fifth leg of the 2014 Furusiyya series in Rotterdam on Friday afternoon will see Ireland jump first of the eight teams competing.
